Overcoming an early deficit
and foul trouble, the Lady
Hornets would not be denied in
their own tournament against
the Lady Bulldogs as Westfield
pulled away for a 45-34 win.
“It’s very exciting and good
for our team,” Westfield senior
Ashley Burger said.
After George Walton scored
the first five points of the game,
the Lady Hornets responded
with the next 15 points to spark
a 19-1 run to build a lead they
would not surrender the rest of
the day.
“It goes mean a lot when you
do win your own tournament
against two good teams like we
did,” Westfield girls head coach
Leigh Ann Champion said.

In the championship game
Saturday evening, George

a 40-38 win over North Cobb.
Dominic Whatley scored a

With the championship win,
the GISA Class AAA No. 1
ranked Lady Hornets improved
to 7-1 overall as George Walton
suffered its second loss in 12
game in 2002.
“They are both very different
teams that we faced,”
Champion said. “North Cobb
was a very quick, pesky team,
while George Walton has more
size and aggressive. It was a
good test for us against two
teams that are so diverse.”

Westfield answered in the
third quarter by outscoring the

regain control of the game.
“They never quit,” Champion

The Lady Hornets were
forced to shuffle their lineup

“We had to make an adjust

The move seemed to pay off as
