News Briefs announced the date of their 2003 Annual Meeting. The meeting is set for Jan. 21 and t&ljje pbmsixm plmtte Hlournal will be held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in the new Miller-Murphy-Howard Building. George Israel, CEO/President of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, will be the featured guest speaker for the meeting. Israel has also served as mayor of Macon. Perry Mayor Jim Worrall informed the chamber board that the local cable company plans to discontinue broadcast ing WSB-TY Channel 2 on the local cable. The Chamber approved a res olution to be sent to Suntel Cable requesting that Channel 2-WSB be retained on the local cable. Chamber Chairman Linda Easterly announced that the Georgia Chamber Annual Meeting will be on January 13 and those holding tickets for this event will be admitted free of charge to the Inaugural Celebration. The Eggs and Issues Breakfast is scheduled for the next morning. The Chamber board approved a budget of $180,780 for the 2003 year. Also approved was a member ship dues increase of 3% for all members with the exception of associate members (civic groups), retired individuals, and elected officials. Dr. Thelma Sexton submitted her resignation from the board because of other commitments. Others leaving the board include Mike Gray who served as legal counsel, Derry Watson, Carl Hammock, Wayne Ragin and Dave Cyr. New board members are Brian Jones and Brenda King. Chamber officers for 2003 include Mike Baker as Chairman and Jim Mehserle as Chairman Elect. The suspect apparently entered the Race Trac on 1515 Sam Nunn BouleVard and sprayed three people behind the counter with some type chemical, said Capt. Heath Dykes. An undetermined amount of money was taken. The suspect was armed with a handgun and is described as a white male wearing a brimmed hat and dark colored jacket. He fled the scene in a white car, believed to be a Crown Victoria, bearing a Florida tag. Animal Control Officer Happy Shenal said she appreciates the help everyone gave in making the event a success.
