Barry Corbitt, Director of the Warner
Robins division of The Salvation Army, spoke
with the city’s Noon Optimist Club last
Thursday. Corbitt, who has lived in Warner
Robins sijice June, told of how he plans to
expand the division’s operations and out
reaches over the coming months. Corbitt also
described his busy and varied schedule.
“There are days, especially around the hol
idays, when I leave my house at 6:15 in the
morning and don’t come home until 1:00 am.
You just have to hit the ground running,” he
said.
Corbitt, who has worked for the Salvation
Army in Georgia for the past 14 years, said
that this Christmas in Warner Robins is the
busiest he has experienced since he started
working for the non-profit organization.
“The nature of my job is that I can literal
ly be standing on a street corner counseling a
drunken man one moment and then address
ing the General at the Base a little while
later.”
Corbitt, who spent time doing relief work
at the Pentagon and World Trade Center
after September 11th, acknowledged that, if
not for his involvement in Salvation Army, he
never would have experienced half the many
interesting things he’s been a part of.
