Demons Continued from Page IB
destined to be tight after
Warner Robins jumped out
to a 6-0 in the opening
moments following the tip
off.
But Northside responded
with a 30-15 run, that saw
the first of four ties at 14-14,
to build a 30-21 advantage
with under two minutes
remaining before the end of
the first half.
Malone then subbed out
his entire starting lineup
and the bench went to work
to cut the lead by five at 34-
29 by halftime.
“I thought the guys came
in off the bench and gave us
a spark,” Malone said. “They
came in a gave us some ener
gy. I’m not saying the
starters weren’t giving it the
effort. They just weren’t get
ting the job done.”
Warner Robins maintained
the surge in the second half
as they opened the third
quarter with a 11-4 run to
retake the lead at 40-38 with
4:12 left in the third quarter.
After the Eagles knotted
®tje JCawston plome
the score at 40-40 on their
following possession, Warner
Robins scored the next nine
points as Travis Nelson
opened the barrage with a
pair of crowd raising dunks
and Scott St. Cyr closed it
out with a 3-pointer.
Malone feels that his
squads encounter with No. 5
ranked Jonesboro pending
on Tuesday had little to do
with its lackluster perform
ance.
“That’s not the way I do
things,” Malone said.
“We take every game one
at a time and don’t look past
nobody. I never have.”

state tournament,” Centennial
head coach Don St. James said.
“We had a couple of guys step
up this time.”
St. James’ wrestlers placed in
the top three in nine of the 14
classes with five class wins.
While Centennial went home
as the best team, Jamal Scott of
Valdosta High garnered the
Most Valuable Wrestler honors.
Scott won the 152-pound class
in a 6-4 decision.
“It feels good to tell you the
truth - I didn’t even place here
last year,” Scott said. “I just
came out here and wrestled as
hard as I could.”
The Best Match of the tour
nament went to Calvin Huggins
of Northside and Wes
Williamson of Jonesboro for the
heavyweight title bout. The two
titans battled back and forth for
six minutes before Williamson
won by two points.

the podium was Northside with
125 points and fourth place.
“I felt we did pretty good,”
Northside head coach Dan Kelly
said. “The tournament went
well. Everyone seemed to be
pleased with the way it was
run.
Ryan Jones and Huggins,
both made it to the champi
onship match in the 112 and
275-pound weight classes,
respectively. Jones, as did
Huggins, would fall and second
place would become Northside’s
highest individual finish for the
day.
Just behind Huggins and
Jones, were Travis Miles and
Tavoris Boyd of the 113 and
152-pound classes, respectively.
Boyd, one of the state’s top
wrestlers, was left fighting for
third place after losing to a 3-2
decision in the semi-finals.

Deontai Price was
Northside’s lone fourth place
finisher. Tion Kendrick, 171
lbs., and Morris Johnson, 189
lbs., stood a good chance of join
ing Price in fourth place. The
two Perry wrestlers made it all
the way to the semi-finals but
were then sent into the losers’
bracket and eliminated shortly
thereafter. Perry finished the
tournament behind Northside,
but ahead of the other Houston
County schools, with 45 total
points.
Warner Robins had little to

Davis. Davis advanced all the

being eliminated.

Depner and Brown.
Houston County finished the
day in dead last with 17 points.
Clayton Hunt was Houston
