The motive does not appear
to be racial, added Houston

Sgt. Jon Holland.
One church is white, one
black. But the churches are
located only about a mile apart.

that incident, he said.
Woodson said his congrega

he told them about the attempt
to burn the building Sunday
morning.
“I heard gasps,” he said.
“There was shock and sur
prise.”
He said the church members
will be praying for the culprit.

“We’re in this together,” he
said.
Miller, who has been pastor
of Piney Grove for five years,
said he and Woodson met
Sunday afternoon. They talked
about holding a special fellow
ship service for the two congre

Miller said he received a
phone call from a church dea
con Saturday night telling him
about the fire.
Because of Deputy Parrish’s
quick action, damage to Piney
Grove was minimal, about
SIOO, Miller said.
“If he had not put it out, we
would have had more extensive
damage,” he said.
Reaction at Piney Grove
Baptist Church was much the
same as at Bonair United
Methodist Church.
“It is amazing to us. that
someone would do such a
thing,” Miller said.
But Miller said if the person
who committed the act walked
into the church, he or she would
be welcomed.
“We have to pray for them
and not hold malice in our
heart,” he said.

With this growth comes relo

on Watson Boulevard, but last
November, the office moved to
103 Westridge Drive, which pre

office. Hospice will host an open
house in the new location from
5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20.
The new building, which is
located off Houston Lake Road,
is 11,000 square feet and has
room for all of Houston County
Hospice’s clinical staff. Another
perk of the new location is that
the property is large enough to
accommodate a planned
Hospice House sometime in the
future. The house would be

enough to leave the hospital but

Regarding the new member
ship of the board, Boswell said,
“The whole culture of the board
changed on Jan. 1.”
He said that the board has
been “fractured and dysfunc

“new board” to be more accessi

Boswell also said that he

Hospice of Houston County,
which is a United Way agency,
is the only independent, non
profit hospice in Middle
Georgia. Hospice usually bills
Medicare, Medicaid and other
personal insurance providers
but accepts patients regardless
of their ability to pay. “The
fact that we are non-profit
makes our quality of care so
much better,” Liebscher said.
As such, Hospice depends on
donations, especially donations
to memorial funds that are set
up in memory of Hospice
patients.
Hospice staff members treat
not only physical but also emo
tional needs. And the organiza
tion provides relief not only for
the patients it serves but also
for families and caregivers, by
giving them advice and instruc
tion on caregiving. After the
patient has passed, Hospice also
provides bereavement services,
including grief counseling, for
the survivors.
