Local chiropractor named to state board
By Jon Suggs

PERRY - Once more, a
Houston County medical practi
tioner has been trusted with
the guidance of his profession.
Perry chiropractor Dr. Craig
Patterson was recently named
to the Georgia Board of
Chiropractic Examiners. The
six-member board - five chiro
practors and one consumer - is
responsible for regulating the
state’s approximately 4,800
licensed chiropractors.
Its responsibilities include
administering examinations,
licensing qualified applicants,
investigating complaints and
taking disciplinary action.
“We’re the ‘police of the pro
fession,”’ Patterson said.
The appointment is an honor
and responsibility for the
Maclntyre-born physician,
whose Perry practice dates back
to 1989.
His love of the field goes back
much further.
The roots of his interest dig
back to his high school days,
when he suffered a football
injury. A local chiropractor
helped him, and his fascination
with the profession grew.
“I really liked the chiropractic
approach to total health recov
ery, without the use of drugs or
surgery, unless absolutely nec
essary,” Patterson said.
Following high school gradua
tion, Patterson attended Middle
Georgia College in Cochran,
where he received the pre-med
background necessary before
enrolling in Life Chiropractic

College in Marietta. He
received his degree in March
1986.
After working for two years in
Macon with Dr. Andrew Arena
- learning all aspects of running
a practice, especially the busi
ness end, he says - Patterson
moved to Perry and opened his
own practice in 1989.
Today, he runs the Patterson
Chiropractic Clinic, which has
existed at its 1304 Macon Road
location since 1996.
In 1999, he added an associ
ate, James Arena, younger
brother of Andrew.
Patterson attributes much of
his success to his parents - R.W.
and Ann - who encouraged him
along the way and helped him
with his school bills.
“They are just super-great
Christian parents ... and were a
big part of my success,”
Patterson said.
When Patterson was sworn in
for his post, they were present
for the ceremony, a proud
moment for parents and son.
Patterson lives in Perry with
his wife, Rosemari, and their
three children, Mitchell, Marla
and Spencer. They are members
of First Baptist Church where
he is active in youth activities.
“Perry’s been great ... an
ideal situation,” he said.
And it was a destination he
has in mind as far back as col
lege.
“My interest was to open an
office in Perry,” he said. “Being
raised in a small, very country
town, I didn’t want to go to a
big city. Perry is the best of both
