PERRY - A group of enthusi
astic, motivated people met
recently at the New Perry Hotel
to kick off an upcoming event,
Walk America 2003 for Perry.
Perry’s Walk America 2003
will begin with registration at 9
a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, on the
lawn of the old Houston County
courthouse.
Walkamerica, a national
event held in cities throughout
the U.S., raises funds for the
March of Dimes - funds used to
support lifesaving research and
innovative programs that save
babies from prematurity, birth
defects and other serious health
problems.
According to the March of
Dimes, a baby is born every
eight seconds in the United
States. While most are healthy,
1 in 8 comes too early and 1 in
26 has a serious birth defect.
Each year, more than 460,000
babies are born prematurely,
some so small their lives hang
in the balance. Those who sur
vive may suffer lifelong conse
quences, like mental retarda
tion, blindness and cerebral
palsy.
No one knows what causes
half of all premature births, but
no one is working harder than
the March of Dimes to Find out.
Walkamerica, the first walk
ing event held in the U.S., is in
its 33rd year.

they opposed a hotel being built
at the GNFA because of the
business it would take from
them.
Evans added that “the
Georgia National Fairgrounds
has been good for the area and
for our business.”
Chuck Linn, manager of the
New Perry Hotel and former
manager of the Jameson Inn
said Perry doesn’t need another
hotel.

against the building of a hotel
on the fairgrounds.

Walk America.
Team leaders in attendance at
the meeting shared ideas for
