how great a person and how
dedicated the service he is.
He is very deserving of the
honor.”
The couple and their two
children, Kelly, 22, and
Andrew, 19, have been
assigned to three other
bases before being stationed
at Robins Air Force Base.
Next month, Shaw will
celebrate 23 years of service
in the Air Force. He has
been involved in every con
flict since Panama, known
as “Operation Just Cause.”
“To use the popular
phrase, failure wasn’t an
option for them or for me,”
Shaw said about the service
men and women working
alongside him from
November 2001 to January
2002, while he served near
Qatar.
“I am not going to spend
the rest of my life trying to
justify why I received the
Bronze Star Medal,” he said.
Though many who know
that Shaw’s leadership
shined through once more
when an aircraft engine
needed to be changed, while
continuing to maintain a 24-
hour combat operations
with only two other aircraft
available. The aircraft
engine change was accom
plished in 12 hours, which is
done on average in nearly 36
hours.
“We knew what had to be
done and we did it,” Shaw
said of the engine change.
