straight at you and not care
that you know it, whereas
Perry can run it straight at
you but if you concentrate on
that, they have the ability to
change things up ... run some
misdirection, traps, things
like that,” he said.
The Panthers will go up
against a defense Macon esti
mated yields about 100 yards
a game along with an offense
that averages the same.
Two things Macon and
Conley see eye to eye on is
Southwest’s lack of roster
strength and a possible let
down after one of the biggest
wins in school history.
The first is hoping it won’t
be a disadvantage while the
latter is hoping it will.
“We expect them to try and
get us tired,” said Macon.
“Basically our kids ... they
don’t lack fundamentals but if
they get tired in the course of
the game, their fundamentals
drop. We didn’t have that
against Northeast but the cool
weather helped. As did

not just a question of if but
when they will break a big
play.
“That’s not to take any
thing away from the rest.
They’re good. It’s just that
those three stand out.”
The key then to winning
is, “stop those three guys,”
he said. They will attempt to
do so, he said, out of a mul
tiple formation that also
applies to the offense.
“We’ve got to hold onto
the ball,” he said. “Control
the offensive line, mount
long drives and use the clock
to our advantage.
“In truth, those are things
we fully try to do every time
we go out, but the more we
can keep the ball away from
them, the better.”
As far as the Lancers,
their stats as of Monday had
not been updated on the
GISA’s official stat Web
page and head coach Todd
Whetsel did not return
phone calls from his home or
at the school.

As for the other, “That was
the first time in a long time
they’ve beaten Northeast.” In
fact, it was the first time for
this senior class, said Macon.
“I would suspect that would

SPORTS
DEMONS-
From page 1B
Pruitt said he thought jun
ior running back Alton
Sanders played well last
Thursday night even though
the stat sheet only showed six
rushes for 36 yards.
“We had a short field,”
Pruitt said.
“He (Sanders) also had a lot
of yards called back the other
night (on penalties).”
Pruitt’s theme in 2003 has
been to become healthy and
remain consistent.
“We still have a long way to
go but if we can get our guys
back two weeks in a row, we’ll
get better,” Pruitt said. “They
haven’t had time to play
together.
“We have to understand the
importance of playing hard
every play and that we have to
do the little things all the
time. Not once in a while.”
The Demons (4-2, 4-1
Region 2-AAAAA) are up
against a solid Bulldog (4-1, 4-
0 Region 2-AAAAA) team. Mt.
Zion runs a Wing T offense
similar to Pruitt’s and he said
he is concerned about then
speed and quickness.
“They do a good job execut
ing the Wing T,” Pruitt said.
“They run the jet sweep and
the buck sweep. They do a
good job of getting guys out to
the comers.
“We’ve got to contain
them,” he added. “We can’t let
them hit that perimeter or
they are gone.”
Pruitt also said the Bulldogs
are just as fast on the defen
sive side of the football.
To that end, he said the
Demons may consider run
ning screen plays and draws
to take advantage of the quick
defense, but Pruitt said he is
mainly concerned about his
team executing what they do
well.
“We still have to work on
our bread-and-butter stuff,”
Pruitt said. “We just have to
carry fakes out.”
Pruitt added that running
the Wing T in Warner Robins
gives both team an advantage
when preparing to face off.
“Any time you can emulate
what you’re doing it helps,”
Pruitt said.
