Houston County High School’s horticulture display was awarded “Champion Horticulture
Display” at the Georgia National Fair. Many of the agriculture students helped prepare
the display. Holly Easom, Cory England, and Brandon Cumbie accompanied agricultural
education teacher Cheralyn Boettcher to the fair to set up the display.

The Perry High School FCCLA fair booth won 4th place at the Georgia National Fair.
Kama Beaumarchais, FCCLA advisor at Perry High School, said the award is “very spe
cial and exciting” because this is only the chapter’s second year.
VFW plans written essay contest

WARNER ROBINS - The
Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 6605 is planning its
annual fall Patriot’s Pen
Contest.
The written essay contest
is designed to foster patriot
ism and to give seventh- and
eighth-grade students an
opportunity to express their
opinions and to address
their personal obligations
and responsibilities toward
the United States as well as
their rights as Americans.
The contest requires mid
dle school students to write
300 words in length, but
must not exceed 400 words.
The deadline to submit
entries to the VFW point of
contact is Nov. 1.

WARNER ROBINS - The
Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 6605 will host its fall
annual Voice of Democracy
audio essay competition.
The audio essay competition
is designed to foster patriot
ism and to give high school
students an opportunity to
voice their opinions. The
three- to five-minute narra
tive allows students to also
address their personal obli
gations and responsibilities
toward the United States
and their rights as
Americans.
The deadline for submis
sion is Nov. 1. The recording
must be in the hands of the
VFW point-of-contact prior
to the date.
Reflection of the above
requirements should also
encompass this year’s
theme, “My dream for
America.”
Seventh- and eighth-grade
students enrolled in public,
private, parochial, and home
schools are eligible to partic
ipate.
Prize eligibility includes
local winners of SIOO for Ist
place, $75 for 2nd place, and
SSO for 3rd place.
The first place local win
ner’s submission is then for
warded to the state competi
tion at district, and winners
receive a monetary award
for first, second, and third
places.
The first-place winner in

lic, private, parochial, or

the fifth-grade winner for

her postcard entry in a

the Jimmy Carter
National Historic Site
Education Program. She
was invited to Plains
Sept. 27 to participate in
the Peanut Festival as a
special guest of Jimmy
and Rosalynn Carter.
Ashley rode in the Peanut
Festival parade, and she
received a book written
and autographed by
Jimmy Carter. She also
received a SSO savings
bond from Rosalynn
Carter. Ashley is the
daughter of Allan and
Missy Hartman of
Bonaire.

robbers

KATHLEEN - The
Houston County Sheriffs
Department is seeking a
man and woman they say
robbed a local grocery store.
The two took an undis
closed amount of money and
the owner’s personal
revolver from Davison
Grocery on Ga. 247, author
ities said.
The suspects are
described as a tall, thin
black man in his early 20s,
with short hair worn tight
to the scalp, and a black
woman, shorter and heavy
set, in her early 20s, also
with short hair worn tight
to the scalp.
They left in a champagne
colored, late-model
Chevrolet Impala or Malibu.

on these suspects is encour
