host seniors tourney
The 20th annual seniors
bowling tournament will be held
Saturday and Sunday at Gold
Cup Bowling Center off Russell
Parkway. Closing dates for

The Houston County YMCA
is offering the following camp
dates: Nov. 24-26 for

Northside refusing to overlook struggling Jonesboro

Saturday, the U-ll Lady
Strikers showed up at the
CGSA soccer fields ready
to play ball.
In a tough competition
between evenly matched
teams, the Lady Strikers
were able to come away
with the win, 4-3, against
a bigger, more piiysical
team.
It was a comeback for
the Strikers, who were

After moving to 4-
3 overall, the
Westfield
Hornets will take a
much-needed week of
rest as they prepare to
confront the rigors of a
full regional schedule
next week.
“It’s good for us,’’
Westfield head football
coach Ronnie Jones said.
“We’re not going to do as
much this week. We will
start doing some stuff on
Southland since we have
two weeks to prepare.”
The Hornets (4-3, 0-0
Region 3AAA) are coming
off a game where they
were shut out on the road
against Stratford. With
struggles in consistency

issues in the first quarter
against Morrow Saturday,
getting up early on the

tough, shutting down the
Revolution's offense,
allowing no goals.

Jones said, referring to
other mistake made

not just linemen, it’s a
whole team thing.
“It’s a matter of matu
rity inside the 20 (yard
line),” Jones added. “We
have to concentrate on
our assignments. We shot
ourselves in the foot
Friday night.”
Jones gave his team the
day off on Monday but
returned to full practice
Tuesday committed to
improvement.
“We’re trying to work
on some of the things
that maybe we can do a
little better job of,” Jones
said. “Right now it’s a lit
tle bit of everything.

baseball World Series for
the first time since the
conversion from Little
League this past sum
mer/fall
and came
away
amazed.
What
does that
have to do
with
October?
Because,
he’s expect
ing the
same level
of competi
tion when
the league
hosts a
tourna
ment at
Simpson
Park Saturday and Sunday.
“I was very surprised to
see the caliber of ball these
teams can play,” he said in
regard to the trip. His trip
was with the Prospects, a
traveling team featuring a
mix of players from various
parts of Georgia but also
with a strong contingent
the majority of Warner
Robins talent.
“It’s a higher step up than
even All-Star teams ... espe
cially 15-and-under. There
was one kid pitching 90 mile
an hour and he was only 14
years old. The guy (coach)
had three on his pitching
staff.
“That kid was the ace but
the others threw in the 85
to 86 range.
“Any varsity coach would
love to have someone like
that.”
