PERRY - Brian Bowen,
chairman and CEO of
Uzdunrobita Cellular, the
mobile telephone market
leader in Uzbekistan whose
parent company, ICG Inc., is
based in Perry, was elected
to serve on the board of
directors of the American
Uzbek Chamber of
Commerce (AUCC) during
their recent tenth annual
meeting in Tashkent,
Uzbekistan.
The conference took place
at the International
Business Center with the
participation of Uzbek and
U.S. governments as well as
over 100 American business
representatives. Co-chairs
of the conference were
AUCC President Jim
Cornell and Deputy Prime
Minister of Uzbekistan
Elyor Ganiev. The confer
ence provided participants
with informative speeches
by senior Uzbek govern
ment representatives.
AUCC President Jim
Cornell opened the meeting
by noting that this tenth
anniversary was the first
annual conference held in
Tashkent since the tragic
events of 9/11.
“Out of this tragedy,
though, came the positive
result of bringing our two
countries closer together,”
he said. “I feel fortunate to

The U. S. Embassy Acting
Deputy Chief of Mission
Michael Reinert spoke to
the group and outlined U. S.
assistance to Uzbekistan
since independence in 1991.
Reinert noted that the first
ten years of the bilateral
relationship saw
Uzbekistan receive SSOB
million in U. S. aid.
However, since Sept. 11,
2001, the assistance has to
date totaled $220 million, of
which sll million went to
market reform programs.
The largest components of
U. S. aid has recently gone
into security and legal aid
programs as well as human
itarian assistance.
Uzbekistan also has one of
the largest Peace Corps pro
grams in the world with 220
volunteers in the country.
ICG Inc., the Perry-based
holding company, has been
involved in Uzbekistan for
the pastl2 years. Their tele
com operation leads the cel
lular telephone market
there with over 120,000
subscribers nationwide.

SPECIAL ELECTION
Notice is hereby given that a special election will be held in conjunction with the November
4, 2003 General Municipal Election for the purpose of submitting to the voters of the City
of Perry for approval or rejection, the question of Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages for
consumption on the premises between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 12:00 midnight in any
licensed establishment which derives at least 50% of its total annual gross sales from the
sale of prepared meals or food in all of the combined retail outlets of the individual estab
lishment where food is served and in any licensed established which derives at least 50% of
its total annual gross income from the rental of rooms for overnight lodging.
Any person who is a resident of the City of Perry and who is registered as an elector shall
be eligible to vote in this election. The hours of voting will be from 7:00 a.m, until 7:00 p.m.
on November 4, 2003 at Perry Primary School Gym.
