Tattnall eliminates Westfield

MACON Despite losing
both regular season games
to Tattnall,
Westfield

into the

Saturday
they still had
a good

After leading most of the
game, the Hornets fell
behind late, only to make a
comeback and take the lead.
In the end, however, a big
play followed by clutch free
throws gave Tattnall a 52-
46 win and a Final Four
berth.
The opening quarter
proved Westfield’s hopes
were attainable. They
Hornets came out hot, hit
ting three 3-pointers in the
first half and going into the
locker room with a 21-19
lead.
Senior Bubba Blalock
came out firing in the third
quarter. He hit four shots
during that span, and Jesse
Revis dropped in a trey to
give the Hornets a 32-31
lead.
But, two late 3-pointers
by Tattnall’s Justin True
put the Trojans ahead by
five going into the fourth
quarter.
Multiple lead changes
took place from there. After
the Trojans pulled ahead by
six, Blalock hit back-to-back
shots—a 3-pointer and a
fade-away 15 footer—to
bring the Hornets within
one with two minutes to go.
The Trojans put up a shot
and appeared to have
secured an offensive
rebound after the miss.
However, Josh O’Neal
tipped the ball away from
Tattnall and kicked it out to
Revis.
Revis took the ball down
the floor on a fast break and
dished it off to Daniel
Peake, who finished the
play with a lay-up to give
the Hornets a 43-42 lead
with 1:30 left.
Tattnall brought the ball
down the court and tried to
get feed it to Justin Reeves,
their high scorer. Westfield
denied the attempt. The

47-30. Tift County scored the
first three baskets to start
the last eight minutes to
make it 11, and that in turn
prompted Baxley to call a
timeout.
“I just wanted to settle
them down a little bit,” he
said. “Let them know we had
command. They (Tift
County) were the ones des
perate, not us. We could con
trol the tempo.”
And that’s just what they
did until the Lady Devils
opted for a new strategy
fouling and falling prey to
Holmes.

“Courtney (Watkins) had
a big game for us,” Hardy
said. “He contributed when
we needed him.”
Watkins had a season-high
19 points.
“They shot the ball better
throughout the game,”
McDuffie said. “We didn’t
make the shots when we
needed to.”
True. Perry went 9-for-15
from the field in their third
quarter comeback run,
inspired by Tarvis Billings.
His layup at the end of the
third quarter put Perry up
60-58 and capped the
Panthers resurgence. He
also made three steals and
had three rebounds in the
quarter that resulted in
eight points.
During the fourth quarter,
the lead changed three
times, as the Panthers
couldn’t pull away. They suf
fered three turnovers on
three steals that resulted in
four points.
Washington’s Marcus Ivey
scored a game-high 34
points. His steal and dunk
gave an emotional lift to the
Golden Hawks and pulled
them to within one, 69-68 at
the 2:00 mark of the fourth
quarter.

Northside’s Deontai Price
came in after a successful sea

Feldman of Lakeside-DeKalb,
5-1, in Friday’s opening
round.
“He didn’t get on track,”
Kelly said. “He let the other,
guy take control. In any
match, and certainly at the
state tournament, you have to
come out ready.”
Price opened Saturday in
the consolation brackets with
three victories before he was
eliminated in the fourth
round, 11-8, by Jeremy
Norman of Murray County.
Hilton opened competition
with two wins before suc

Mark Fuller by a pin at 6:21.
That forced him to the loser’s
bracket where he lost in his
first match.

Kevin Battle scored eight
points in the game all from
the foul line. He went 4-for

“He shoots 80 percent
from the line,” Hardy said.
