Feds may fund Big
Indian Creek bridge
From staff reports
WASHINGTON - Perry
could get a littlr federal help
making the Ball Street
extension a reality.
Included in HR 3550, the
Transportation Equity Bill
of 2004, is f 1.5 million for
construction of a bridge over
Big Indian Creek that will
divert tncks from down
town Pent.
The will involve a
one-mile extension of Ball
Street to connect downtown
Perry wih the Larry Walker
Parkway. When the road
extension is completed,
large commercial trucks will
be kept out of downtown
Perry.
Rep. Jim Marshall, D-
Macon, expressed optimism
that tht funding mil survive
througl the final draft of
the bill
“I am pleased to have got
ten the Big Indian Creek
bridge into the bill,”
Marshall said. “The deal’s
not completely done yet, but
we passed our biggest hur
dle with (Friday’s) over
whelming vote in the House
of Representatives. I’ll be
working to assure the proj
ect survives the
House/Senate conference
committee and reaches the
president’s desk for final
approval as soon as possi
ble.”
HR 3550 passed the
House by a 357-65 vote. In
February, the Senate passed
a different version of the
transportation authoriza
tion bill. The legislation now
goes to a conference com
mittee to resolve differences
prior to final passage.
They work hard for
the money.
