GRAND JUNCTION,
Colo. <AP) - Michael Blagg
kept a loaded gun in a night
stand and hurt his wife
early in their marriage, his
mother-in-law testified
Tuesday in Blagg’s murder
trial.
Marilyn Conway said she
was not alarmed that her
daughter, Jennifer, and
Blagg kept a loaded gun in
their bedroom.
“In South Carolina (where
the couple once lived) there
was a loaded gun in the
night stand and they kept
one in Grand Junction,”
Conway testified.
Blagg, 41, reported his
wife and their 6-year-old
daughter, Abby, missing on
Nov. 13, 2001. Jennifer
Blagg’s body was found
seven months later in a
landfill.
An autopsy showed she
was shot at close range in
her left eye. The murder
weapon has never been
found.
Conway said her daughter
told her Blagg hurt her early
in their marriage when he
was drunk, but Conway
knew of no other problems.
Blagg was arrested at his
mother’s home in Warner
Robins, Ga., shortly after
his wife’s body was found.
His mother, Elizabeth
Blagg, testified Tuesday
that handguns were kept at
her home but all were in a
locked box.
In a recorded telephone
conversation played for
jurors, Elizabeth Blagg told
prosecutors in November
2003 that the family was
searching for a missing key
to the box.
Elizabeth Blagg Tuesday
disputed another family
member’s contention that
Michael Blagg took the key.
She said the key was found
in the house.
“Are you hiding a murder
weapon in your house?”
defense attorney David
Eisner asked Elizabeth
Blagg.
“No, I am not,” she
replied.
Conway testified she sup
ported her son-in-law until
she heard about his alleged
interest in pornography.
Prosecutors allege that
Blagg killed his wife to get
out of a troubled marriage.
Blagg maintains his inno
cence and claims an intrud
er killed his wife.
