Kids build city out of household materials at Museum

WARNER ROBINS -
About 16 kids build a city
last week. Not an ordinary
city, but one made of paper
towel rolls, cereal boxes,
cards and other cardboard
materials found at home.
The kids were taking part
in the Flight anil
Technology Center’s ACE
Construction Camp at the
Museum of Aviation.
Parents and other guests
were invited to see the card
board city Friday in the
Century of Flight hangar.

TIFTON - The 13th
Annual Georgia Hope
Charity Pageant will be held
on Sept. 4 at the Tift
Theatre for the Performing
Arts on Main Street in
downtown Tifton.
The pageant is being held
in memory of Kenneth
Snow, with three scholar
ships being presented in
Kenneth’s memory.
Age divisions will be Baby
Miss (ages birth to 23
months), Teeny Miss (ages 2
to 3), Tiny Miss (ages 4 to 6),
Little Miss (ages 7 to 9),
Junior Miss (ages 10 to 12),
Teen Miss (ages 13 to 16),
and Miss (ages 17 and over).
Teen and Miss will have a
private interview with the
judges. Contestants will be
scored on beauty, poise,
gown, personality, and over
all appearance. There will
be an optional talent compe
tition for those who would
like to compete in talent.
The talent winners will per
form at the 2005 66th
Annual Miss Georgia
Forestry State Scholarship
Pageant’s preshow.
Among the reigning
queens on hand to relin
quish their titles will be
Allison Horton and
Kimberly Carr, both of
Warner Robins.

through hands-on building.
Kindergarteners, and first
and second-graders from
area schools built bridges,
skyscrapers, buildings and
roads.
Melissa Spalding, director
of education for the muse
um, said she wanted to give
younger students an oppor
tunity to learn about engi
neering and architecture in
a fun way.
“We spent all week giving
them opportunities to do
activities with learning
photogenic, prettiest dress,
and prettiest smile competi
tion. Winners will receive
trophy, full round crown,
banner, crowning pin, scep
tor and queen’s bears. There
will be three runners-up in

to learn about foundations
and structures and city
planning. This is a culmina
tion of all that.”
Cody Deas, 7, who goes to
Perdue Primary School, and
Stephen Smith, 7, who goes
to Lake Joy Elementary,
built the bridge that crosses
a lake in the city.
“We built a city the way
we wanted it to be built,”
Deas said. “I think our city
is neater than Warner
Robins. There’s cooler
buildings.”
