witches, demons and
ghosts. So, in addition to
the spooky and scary
events, there are a num
ber of family-oriented
events this weekend that
have a harvest theme or
an emphasis on whole
some family fun. Inside,
we list some good options.

WARNER ROBINS - District 26 Sen.
Robert Brown (D-Macon) wants Georgia to
“revisit” the state’s entire tax structure.
“What we are doing and how we tax in
this state,” Brown said during a recent
interview with Republican challenger Dale
Washburn. “Not just property tax, but
everything.”
In 1994, a doctor at Georgia State
University, who had previously set up tax
structures for South American countries,
accused Burke of having the county
pay for computers and keeping
grant money designated for the
computers in his account. He also
said Burke had used witness fund
money to pay for the sofa and throw
pillows in his office.
Moore accused Burke of financial
mismanagement and “check kit
ing,” for moving funds from one
account to another.
did a study on tax reform.
“His study made a lot of sense as to how
we should restructure tax,” Brown said.
The study was submitted to the state leg
islature.
“We passed something that last night that
was an incredible hodge-podge mess,”
Brown said. “(Then-Gov.) Zell Miller could
n’t wait to veto it. It was supposed to be a
response to this study. I don’t know what it
would have done had he let it gone into law.”
Brown said many strong legislators, pri
vate sector economists and corporate execu
tives participated in the study. He said it’s
probably on a shelf somewhere.
Brown said legislators must seriously sit
down and study tax codes and not “snipe” at
one another.

Burke said he’s been told that
