PERRY - The Houston
Medical Center is making
room in its emergency room
for the incoming flu season.
The hospital is adding an
eight-bed holding unit, due
to the increased emergency
room visits it anticipates as
flu season approaches,
according to Art Christie,
administrator of Houston
Medical Center, who made
the announcement in
Wednesday night’s meeting
of the Hospital Authority.
Administrators hope to

PERRY - Many Houston
Countians have one less
thing to do on Nov. 2 - vote.
The Houston County
Board of Elections had seen
about 1,686 voters as of
Wednesday afternoon. This
does not include voters who
voted on Wednesday
because all votes are com
piled from the Houston
County Board of Elections
and the Houston County
Annex after the day is over.
Vickie Eckman, Houston
Board of Elections deputy
registrar, said there was a
good turnout Monday and
only about a 15-minute
wait.
But on Wednesday the
wait was estimated to be at
least an hour in Perry and
in Warner Robins a little
over two hours.
JoAnn Shipes, Houston
County elections/registra
tion supervisor, said the
Board of Elections knew
advance voting would be
popular, but not this popu
lar.

Voters participate in advance voting at the Houston County Board of Elections office
in Perry.
“Keep in mind many vot
ers are here for other rea
sons, such as absentee vot
ing, which allows for those
handicapped, out of the
precinct and those over the
age of 75 to vote,” Shipes
said. “So this week is a mix
ture of voters.”
Advance voting will end
Friday, but absentee voting
will continue for those who
meet the above criteria
before Tuesday’s election.

Land near commercial

King said that system some
times hurts farmers and
timber growers.
He wants to tax land as it

The same is true with all

Tolleson countered and

do business in the state.
“Their taxation was going
up so high, they couldn’t be
sheltered from the taxation
problem,” he said. “That
was 320,000 acres of pure
