Perry PD unveils
paddy wagon

PERRY - Lots of police depart
ments have special-use vehicles:
crime scene vans, off-road trucks,
even boats.
“Nobody has anything like this,”
said Police Chief George Potter, who
was beaming as he unveiled the
newest addition to his department’s
fleet: a shiny new custom-made golf
cart, designed to look like a 1920 s
paddy wagon.
Where do you get something like
this?
One person’s trash, another’s
treasure.
The chassis comes from an Air
Force flight line dump-loader for
which the department paid $750 at
a surplus sale.
Those funds were culled from the
forfeitures and seized assets fund.
“Drug dealer money,” Potter said.
“So it really didn’t cost the taxpay
ers anything.”

Kids Yule Love

dismal to date

PERRY - Come Christmas
morning, hundreds of
Houston County kids are
likely to wake up and dis
cover that Santa just passed
them by.
That’s the way it’s looking
for Kids Yule Love right
now. Dismal. In fact it’s
looking like the Grinch real
ly is going to steal
Christmas this year.
Here’s the truly awful
arithmetic.
In the Perry area, 546
children have been regis
tered. A large number of
those are foster children. All
of the children on that list
are from families below the
poverty level. Many of the
parents registering for their
children are out of work and
offered unemployment
checks as proof of their
need.
As of this week in the
Perry area, the Christmas
requests of just 13 of those
children have been met,
