Gausche also swam a 25.63
to win the 50 Freestyle and
qualified below the mark of
26.5.
She also qualified in for
state in two other events.
She won the 100 Freestyle
with a posting of 56.56. That
was almost two seconds
below the required 58.5.
As a member of the
400 Freestyle relay, she
also anchored the team of
Carpenter, Smith and Bofto
as they won the event with
a time of 4:04.52. That
stomped the 4:14 require
ment.
Carpenter also won the
100 Breaststroke, 1:14.68
(1:16 or better needed to
qualify for state) and just
missed qualifying in the 200
Freestyle by 900ths of a sec
ond. She needed a 2:08.5 and
finished with a 2:08.59.
Goodman and Smith were
on the were on the 200
Freestyle relay team with
Andrea Lawson and Marley
Hudson. They finished sec
ond with a time of 1:51.66
and thus qualified for state
(1:54).
They also qualified for
state with a 2:06.55 in the
200 Medley relay.
The Bears’ Cameron Tufts
finished second in the 200
Intermediate Medley with
a 2:11.27 to beat the 2:12
maximum. He, along with
his brother Winfield Jr.,
Will Spence and Brennan
Lawson finished below the
1:41.5 - at 1:38.85 - in the
200 Freestyle relay to make
the state time, although they
finished third.
Tufts also finished second
in the 100 Breaststroke with
a 1:08.2. That was three
tenths of a second fast

Warner Robins as a team
finished fifth overall in the
girls division with 47 points
and sixth in the boys with
29 points.
“The boys relay didn’t
make the (state times),” said
Warner Robins head swim
coach Barbara Hawkins,
“but they did better than
they’ve done before.”
Ben Culpepper won the
50 Free and finished second
in the 100 Free with times
of 22.72 and 51;58, respec
tively. Both times beat the
23.5 for the 50 and 52.0 for
the 100 qualifying times.
Abigail Cunningham also
qualified in events. She won
the 200 IM with a 2:18.72
and finished second in the
100 Backstroke, 1:04.07.
She had to beat a 2:24 in the
200 IM and 1:06 in the 100
Backstroke.
Northside was seventh in
the girls division (32 points)
and fifth in the boys (30
points).
Lindsay Duprey swam a
2:23.06 for third in the 200
IM and 1:04 for fourth in the
100 butterfly for them. Both
times were good enough to
qualify for state as she need
a 2:24 and 1:05 or better,
respectively.
Perry finished ninth in the
girls division (nine points)
and 11th in the boys (2
points).
Most of its swimmers were
unavailable and only four
Lady Panthers competed
and two Panthers.
Houston County and
Warner Robins are slated
to go to the Bainbridge
Saturday for the Syrupmaker
Invitational.

Monique and Richard began
lessons with him three years
ago. Marc started a year
later.
“I was actually exposed
to taekwondo as a teen
ager,” the native of Fort
Washington, Md., said. “It is
a very good character build
ing tool. That was something
important I wanted to instill
in my children.”
She said the karate has
also helped Marc become
more confident and given
Richard a place to channel
his focus on detail.
Richard has come in first
in Forms in every tour
nament at every level in
which he has participated.
He spars some but said he
much prefers the attention
to detail necessary to per
form the required moves for
each belt.
“I want to keep doing
(karate) until I reach ninth
degree,” he said.
His mother said she also
plans to continue.
“It’s a wonderful stress
reliever for me,” she said.
“I hope to earn the honor of
being an instructor.”
