Demons, Bears win big at meet

WARNER ROBINS -
Warner Robins and Houston
County came out winners in
the quad round robin wres
tling meet hosted by the
Demons Thursday night.
Also in attendance were
teams from Westside and
Baldwin.
Each team participated in
two matches. The two out
of town teams battled the
locals but Warner Robins
did not face off against
Houston County, nor did
Westside grapple Baldwin.
The most interesting
move made on the night was
in Houston County’s Zack
Wiley pin of his Westside
opponent.
Wiley, a senior, has been
wrestling since his fresh
man year. He used a move
called the Banana Split to
pin his opponent.
The easiest way to
describe the hold is that the
opponent ends up looking
like a pretzel.
With his two victories,
Wiley improved his record
to 35-4 in the 152-pound
weight class.
Warner Robins’ Ricky
Davis also won both of his
matches. He wrestles at 189
but said he wants to move

WARNER ROBINS - Landings
Golf Club professional Bill Goggin

It is his first such honor although
he has been the Georgia PGA

three times including this year.
“I think it is the first time any
one’s been selected from Middle
Georgia,” Goggin said. “The award
is usually dominated by pros from
Atlanta and Sea Island.”
To be considered, Goggin had to

It was only one word.
Actually it was two

the one that stuck in my

That was one of the
things Andy Scott said
following the Houston
County Board of
Education’s approv

Perry’s next athletics
director/head football
coach.
Up until that point I
didn’t understand.
I had had no less than
six “off the record” con
versations - as a friend
- with Chuck Conley after
his firing.
In each, the theme was
the same: “Why? Why?
Why? What have I done
wrong.”
It was obviously unset
tling for him - not to
mention the stress that
has followed - but I, like
many others, was puzzled
as well.
Yes, the Panthers had
had a 5-6 year but the
season prior they were 6-
5 and if not for a string
of terrible luck could
have easily been three
wins better. (Will anyone
ever forget the fumble on
the goal line to eventual
single-A state runner-up
Hawkinsville?)
And look how they fin
ished 2004.
They literally clobbered
their last two regular-sea
son opponents (yes, that
was after they abandoned
the I, and that may not
have worked in Conley’s
favor in the end because
as he said, it wasn’t his
idea), they made the play
offs for the second straight
year - the first time in
the school’s history that
had happened - and then
they gave the state’s cur

Goggin played for his Heritage
High School team and four years
at Georgia College, now Georgia
College and State University, in
Milledgeville where he earned a
degree in marketing in 1988.
Goggin started at the Landings in
1996 and personally built the Golf

It opened in 2001 and since then,
he said he gives about 1,200 lessons
a year.
