Warner Robins proves it's the ’one'

MACON - One was definitely the
loneliest number for Warner Robins
in its 55-42 Region 3S-AAAA win at
Westside Friday.
After the first minute of play, the
Demons’ grand total on the score
board was 1 - a Pierre Miller free
throw.
After two minutes it was 1.
After three minutes it was 1.
After four minutes it was 1.

The Panthers led at
the half 41-32, but Peach
County (14-1, 5-0 in 4-
AAA) out-rebounded Perry

out Kyle Moore who was on
another college visit. Still,
the Bears led 18-10 after the
first quarter.
Valdosta began the second
quarter with a 7-0 run to
pull within one, 18-17 and
as Houston County was
forced to substitute regu
larly to give tired players
rest, Valdosta actually took
the lead on a 4-0 mini-run
22-20.
The teams exchanged the
lead three times before the
half, and Valdosta led 30-29
at the break.
“We made some runs,”
said Valdosta head coach
Wade Hughes. “We hit some
dead spots where we turned
the ball over a lot.”
Their worst lull came in
the third quarter.
Houston County took the
lead with five minutes and
12 seconds left in the quar
ter and finished the frame
with a 10-0 run to lead 43-
34.
Houston County extended
its lead to 15 points 51-36,

getting looks at the bas

It didn’t help that Tarvis

bottom half of the third

the fourth because of a leg
cramp.
His eight-minute absence

That problem solved, the Demons
then began to score. And, it wasn’t
like the Seminoles had been lighting
up the scoreboard up until that point.
All the while Warner Robins was
struggling Westside’s grand total was
5 at its maximum.
The Demons still trailed after one,

Just in time too, as he
joined the team in the

ing on the clock before
the start the second half.
Why so late?
Because they had a lot
to talk about at halftime.
For starters: Why it
took them two quarters
- the first and second - to
equal the output of one
quarter for Region 3S
AAAA host Westside.
“We were missing too
many easy shots,” he
said. “We didn’t shoot
well in the first half. We
didn’t play as well as we
needed to beat a team like
Westside.”
As alluded to, the Lady
Seminoles scored 13
points in the first quarter.
Warner Robins - eventu
ally losing 57-43 - scored
eight in the first and five
in the second.
Westside (15-3, 5-0 in
Region 3S-AAAA) scored
eight in the second period
- most of its success was
due to the ability to get
second, third and even
fourth looks at the basket
