ATLANTA - Delta Air

reduce costs and attract
more fliers, blamed high
fuel prices, low fares and
hefty charges as it reported
a $2.2 billion fourth quarter
loss, capping the worst
annual financial perform

The results, announced
before the market opened
Thursday, missed Wall

losses at the Atlanta-based
carrier in 2004 to $5.2 bil

billion loss American
Airlines’ parent reported for
2002.
Shares of Delta fell 26

$5.69 in early trade on the

Greenberg lives in Warner
Robins with her husband
Jack, their three daughters,
Elizabeth, Heather and
Libby, and several friendly
dogs. The family moved here
from Indiana 12 years ago
and run a business out of
their home, which manufac

1950 s and ’6os. The compa

“All the work is dome by
former employees of a com
pany put out of business by
competition from the
Chinese,” Greenberg said.
“They got together to make
furniture in the United
States and we get a lot of
business for that reason.”
Greenberg said that in
recent elections the
Republican Party has done a
twice-a-month recyclables
collection, and monthly yard
waste collection.
Engle said the bid from
Advanced Disposal Services,
also of Macon, was close, but
the county chose the low bid
from Southland.
In other business:
• The commission con
tracted with Butler,
Williams and Wyche to per
form the fiscal year 2005
audit at $69,230, “the same
price as last year,” Engle
said.
• The commission voted to
release the maintenance
bond for Evening Shade
subdivision, section 11, once
streets and curbs are
cleaned, silt fences are
removed and weed and grass
are cut in storm water man
agement areas and ditches.
• The commission con

storm water study at
$10,950. The company is
also performing similar
work for the three cities as

Delta is to survive, we must
develop a fundamentally dif

ness, which is what we’re
doing.”
In a press release,
Grinstein said “these num
bers show clearly the diffi
culties our airline will con
tinue to face in 2005.” Delta
has lost $8.5 billion since
2001.
For the three months end
ing Dec. 31, Delta said its
net loss was $2.21 billion, or
$16.58 a share, compared to
a loss of $332 million, or
$2.69 a share, in the same
period a year ago. The latest
loss includes $5 million in
dividends paid out to pre
ferred shareholders.
Excluding one-time items
- $1.4 billion in non-cash
charges - Delta said it lost
S7BO million, or $5.88 a
share. On that basis, ana
lysts surveyed by Thomson
First Call were expecting a
net loss of $5.51 a share.
