By RAY UGHTNER

WARNER ROBINS -
Marcus Marquez McKenzie,
23, 315 Bay Street, Warner
Robins, reportedly accused a
Houston County Sheriffs
deputy of stopping him
“because he was a black
man driving,” and if he was
a police officer he’d do the
same thing.
On Sunday, McKenzie was
traveling west on Ignico
Drive from Davis Drive and
reportedly slammed on his
brakes as he approached the
deputy and a Warner Robins
Police vehicle. McKenzie
reportedly crossed the cen
terline and made a U-turn in
front of another vehicle and
began traveling east on
Ignico Drive at a high rate of
speed.
He then reportedly drove
through the parking lot of
closed gas station at the
intersection with North
Davis Drive to the avoid the
red light, then began travel
ing south on Davis at a high
rate • of speed. He was
stopped as he turned into
another closed business.
McKenzie reportedly
became irate when advised
of the reason for his stop. He
produced a Georgia ID card
and a driver’s license sus
pension document issued to
him in November 2004 and
stated he’d been to court for
the citation.
A license check on
McKenzie showed his
license was suspended Dec.
21, 2004, for a Nov. 20, 2004,
implied consent violation.
The driver was then placed
into custody for driving
while license suspended or
revoked. McKenzie report-

McKenzie also reportedly
slammed the door of his
holding cell on the deputy at
the Houston County
Sheriff’s Office. The deputy
caught it with his hand
before it struck him. After
making bond, the driver
walked by the traffic office
to argue about the reason
for his arrest. He reportedly

in court and would have a
black judge that day. He also

deputy he’d “better have his
uniform on straight that
day.”

the suspects as they left his
