Stolen weapon recovered in traffic stop

a trooper during a traffic
stop Tuesday charged with
theft by receiving stolen
property, weaving/failure to
maintain lane, carrying con
cealed weapons, possession
of a firearm by a convicted
felon, driving without insur
ance and driving on sus
pended revoked license.
According to a police report,
he was found with a 9mm
pistol equipped with a laser
sight - a weapon that was
reported stolen on Jan. 21
from a Billy Avenue resi
dence in Warner Robins.

PERRY - The city of Perry
will take part in the Golden
Isles Parkway Association’s
“Trash to Treasures from
the Peaches to the Beaches,”
according to Sheila Jones,
director of the Perry
Convention and Visitors
Bureau.
“Peaches to Beaches,”
Georgia’s longest yard sale,
will take place Friday
through Sunday, March 11-
13, along the Golden Isles
Parkway (U.S- 341) from
Interstate 75 at Perry to I
-95 in the south.
Over 172 miles long, it will
link Perry to Brunswick and
will feature everything from

'master teacher' plan

teachers would be able to
earn the status of “master
teacher” and work as aca
demic coaches in schools
that need help under a bill
passed by the state Senate
on Friday.
The plan, pushed by Gov.
Sonny Perdue, would allow
the state’s Professional
Standards Commission to
offer master teacher certifi
cation to public school
teachers who excel in their
field.
No extra pay would auto
matically come from being a
master teacher. But the cer
tification is needed to
become an academic coach -
which would bring a bump

Flim-flam
On Monday, a Corder
Road apartment resident
reported he’d received a call
saying he and his wife had
been approved for a grant.
The SB,OOO would be
deposited into his account
on Jan. 30. The caller
“sounded Indian," the vic
tim said, and he could hear
keyboard typing and other
voices in the background.
When asked, the victim pro
vided the name of his bank,
apartment around 1 a.m.
and a man was holding a
steak knife to his own
throat, saying he was going
to cut himself.
Police talked with him,
but he reportedly refused to
come out and to relinquish
the weapon. Warner Robins

This is a treasure hunt
along the Golden Isles
Parkway yard sale effort
that area businesses are
encouraged to participate in
to encourage tourism.
Local businesses can pay a
$25 fee to be listed on a
“treasure map” that will be
available at local welcome
centers and businesses. The
city of Perry will be the start
of the event that will contin
ue throughout southeast
Georgia to Brunswick.
Perry and Houston
County residents who would
like to participate in the sale
are asked to call Jones at the
Perry Area Convention and
in pay.

vide our teachers with the
long overdue recognition
and incentives they
deserve,” said Senate

asked to speak to the vic
tim’s wife and when told she
was unavailable, transferred
the call to a recording that
gave him a confirmation
number and indicated that
he was eligible for a free
vacation. The call came from
an 866 (toll free) number
not open for incoming calls.
Found drugs
On Tuesday, a small baggy
containing an unknown
white substance that
appeared to have a chalky
police asked for a deputy
with a Taser to come to the
scene.
Warner Robins Police Lt.
Jeff McCommon made con
tact with a woman inside
the residence at a bedroom
window and persuaded her
to open it. McCommon and
Visitors Bureau, at (478)
988-8000.

ing of the CVB:
• Jones said the city’s
tourism billboards need to
be updated and the initial
cost would begin at $7,426.
The authority voted unani
mously to allow up to
$12,000 for billboards to be
updated since this was
already approved in the
authority’s budget.

nar being held Feb. 8 from

City worker brought out the heavy equipment earlier this week to pull out some trees
in front of the Warner Robins Police Headquarters on Young Avenue. Public Works
Director Joe Musselwhite said the bushes, which had been there for some time, had
outgrown the beds and the police department asked for them to be removed.
