Jerles to run for Perry mayor
Veteran councilman hopes to
bring new style of leadership

PERRY - Perry
Councilman William R.
“Billy” Jerles Jr. will run for
mayor of the city of Perry
this fall.
A qualifying date for
municipal elections has not
been set, but Jerles said he
is stating his plans early to
allow anyone interested in
running for his council post
on the Perry City Council to
have ample time to consider
it.
Jerles said he would bring
a unique base of experience
to the mayor’s office.

Suspects in chase were wanted

PERRY - Kevin Todd Screws, 34,
Anniston, Ala., was killed Thursday in
a shootout with police in Woodlawn
Cemetery.
Screws, and the passenger of the
stolen black Lincoln Navigator, Dawn
Renee Thomas, 33, Prattville, Ala.,
were wanted by authorities in several
jurisdictions in the Southeast for vari
ous criminal offenses, according to the
Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

ment in the city.
“We need to make our tax
base dependent on more
than just residential proper
ty,” he said. “We need to
grow our tax base faster

Events unfolded Thursday night,
after Screws reportedly stole the
Navigator in Unadilla. He fled author
ities up Interstate 75 and into Houston
County, striking a state trooper’s car in
the process.

land Saturday morning, but
it did not take long for the
