order to hold down property
taxes and reduce municipal
taxes.”
The city also needs to pro
vide more and better servic
es to citizens, Jerles said.
He added that as mayor he
would bring a different lead
ership style to council meet
ings.
“I plan to be more active
in agenda presentation and
not leave it up to the city
manager,” Jerles said. “It is
the council’s duty to set pol
icy and set direction. My
style would be to be more
involved in the management
of meetings.”
That said, however, Jerles
said he believes the city
manager form of govern
ment is best.
“The city manager and his
staff serve the city of Perry
well,” he said. “I’ve served
on a number of government
boards and corporate boards
and there is no question a
professional staff is benefi
cial.”
Jerles said his primary
objective as mayor would be
to provide the best possible
service for maintaining the
quality of life in Perry that
is here today.
More specifically, he plans
to tackle projects such as the
Ball Street extension and
revitalizing the Courtney
Hodges Boulevard corridor
to link downtown to the
Georgia National
Fairgrounds and Agricenter.
