Andrea McGee, Principal of Eagle Springs Elementary School, challenged her students
to earn 1,000 Accelerated Reader points for Children’s Book Week. Their reward would
be for her to dress up like a turkey on Friday of that week. The students were so excit
ed about seeing their principal as a turkey that they exceeded the goal. Their total
points for the week were 1,235. The teachers and staff are very proud of their students.
Pictured with McGee are Peyton Raley (school-wide point leader), Matthew Smith,
Khalian Brawner, Ashley Tarpley, Regan Reaves and Sidney Haslem.

Jake Chastain is shown with some of the
school supplies he received at Centerville
Elementary School from Gold’s Gym, which
held a festival and school supply drive to
benefit Houston County schoolchildren. The
Gold’s Gym staff collected contributions of
cash and school supplies to give to stu
dents. School supplies were provided to
seven schools from the donations.
According to Richard Anthony, Gold’s Gym
manager, “This was our first initiative to do
something special to help the children and
schools in our community. We plan to make
the festival and school supplies drive an
annual event, and hope that with the com
munity’s help it only becomes more suc
cessful. Working together we can help
ensure that all of our children have the
materials they need for school.”
