Perry golf course
The Macon Trax will be mak
ing their annual trek south to
Perry Golf Course Feb. 17, for
a night out with local fans.
The event is scheduled to
start at 6:30. The menu includes
steak and salad and the venue
offers enthusiasts a chance to
mingle with approximately 22
Trax players. The cost is $lO.

Perry wins its fouptli region cheepleading title

- Perry High School’s var
sity cheerleaders domi
nated on the blue mat at
Monday’s Georgia High
School Association cheer
leading region competition
at Washington County High
School in Sandersville.
The Panthers have a long
standing tradition of wins
at this level claiming the
top spot in 2002, 2003 and
2004 as a co-ed squad.
But in 2005, it was an all

have a similar 29-point game

at Peach

their seven

Hardy said referring to
Peach County, “but we’re as
good as they are.”
Alas, the Panthers aren’t
as tall.
“They have tall players
who can move,” Hardy said.
Perry did lead most of the
game.
The Panthers opened the
game with a 13-0 run and
ended the first period up
21-8.
Hardy had good reason to
be surprised at Cox’s num
bers. He was scoreless in
the first quarter and scored
eight in the second period,
but Perry was still up 39-27
at the half.

Spalding.
Those teams finished
with final scores within five
points of each other, but
Perry wowed the judges,
spectators and other teams
by scoring a whopping 28
points higher than their clos
est competitor, Spalding.

Demonettes nursing a slight
43-40 lead with less than
a minute to play, she sim
ply defied Warner Robins to
stop her from driving to the
basket.
They did, but not without
fouling her in the process.
She went to the free-throw
line four times with the game
on the line - five times in all
during the period - and con-

For two quarters,
Westfield had mighty
Region 3-AAA opponent
Deerfield-Windsor where
it wanted
it.
The
two were
tied at 14
after one
and the
Hornets
held an
all-too
slim 25-
24 lead at

Then, “Once again we
got in foul trouble,” said
Westfield boys head coach
Duane Hunter. “And
allowed them to go on two
small 6-0 runs in the end
of the third and beginning
of the fourth quarter.
“We allowed them to
shoot 44 free throws,
with them making 34,”
he added, including the
fact all but eight of the
Knights’ points in the
final frame came from the
charity stripe.
“You cannot win games
with dumb fouls like that.
We can play with those
guys if we play a full,
‘smart’ 32 minutes.”
The difference turned
out to be a swing of four
points in the third quarter
as Deerfield-Windsor took
a 22-19 lead into the final
eight minutes.
There, they outscored
the Hornets 27-20.
Jesse Revis led Westfield
on offense with 21. Rob
Tillman and James Fry
each contributed 11 while
Andrew Arnold had 8,
Ryan Sims 7 and Daniel
Peake 6.
The Knights improved to
18-3 and 5-0 in the region.
The Hornets fell to 5-12
and 0-5 in the division.
Their last chance to pick
up a region win before
hosting the region tour
nament will be Friday at
home against Southland.
