Wright remains loyal to his shoes
By RON HIGGINS
Scripps Howard News

The end of an era went
quietly last week.
Memphis center Lorenzen
Wright retired the same
Nike shoe style he has been
wearing for three seasons.
This is stunning, because
NBA players get free shoes
and change shoe styles more
than they change underwear.
Wright busted out his new
Nikes last Tuesday night
against the Phoenix Suns,
finally putting his Nike Air
Max Chosen on the shelf.
Well, sort of.

As far as the girls,
Stratford, which finshed the
regular season at 21-0, has
to be the favorite.
First Presbyterian, at 18-3

would appear to be next.
The Lady Lancers played
Stratford to overtime in

Against FPD, Central

head basketball coach Todd
Whetsel. “We (just) have to
find a way to win a couple of
close ones instead of losing a
couple of close ones.”
He at least knows he has
the players who can do it.
Kristin Ward is the point
guard and scores eight
points a game. Hannah
Moore leads the team with
a 10-point average and can
hit the three and drive the
lane.
Rachel Childress is sec
ond on the team in scoring
with 9.5 points per game.
Whetsel considers her his
best defender. She also leads
the team in steals.
An eighth-grader, Mandy
Spencer, leads the team in
rebounds at 5.7 per game
and is second in steals.
Also, he said he expected
to have Rachel Cantrell back
in time for the playoffs. The
junior had been sidelined,
first by an ankle injury and
then from other physical
problems.
Coming into the region
tournament, Whetsel is
winner of the Stockbridge/
Carver game at Westside on
Friday, 4 p.m.
With the win the Lady
Eagles are guaranteed a trip
to the state tournament.

According to the informa
tion he received from other
coaches, Griffin’s Alexis
Pace was the player to
watch.
Pace had scored 20
points in each of two previ

Warner Robins played a 2-3
zone to shut her down.
Because of. McDaniel, the
Demonettes were forced to
play man-to-man.
“Once we went to man, it
took her out of the game,”
Mobley said. “Our girls
sucked it up, and I think our
depth made a difference.”

In a game that saw 46
fouls called, Perry was
helped because Williams
accrued four fouls in the
first half.
Also, Northeast’s big
man Willie Brezial missed
important minutes with
three fouls, also in the first
half.
Perry took the lead in
the first quarter, 23-15 and
kept extending it as the
game progressed.
At halftime, the Panthers
led 44-28, the third quarter
59-40 and then took a big
leap, 82-57.
That was a progression of
eight points, 16, 19 and 25.
Williams’ 22 was the game

Brown finished with 11.
Tarvis Williams led Perry
with 19 points. Montay
West scored 16 and Watkins

Perry is scheduled to play

NOTICE OF THE AVAILABILITY OF
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
The USDA, Rural Utilities Service has received an application for financial assistance from the City
of Perry. Georgia. As required by the National Environmental Policy Act, the Rural Utilities Service
has prepared an Environmental Assessment that evaluated the potential environmental effects and
consequences of the proposed project. This notice announces the availability of the Environmental
Assessment for public review and comment.
The proposed project consists of expanding and upgrading the existing wastewater treatment plant to
serve the expanding service area for wastewater treatment. The wastewater treatment plant is located
at the south end of Frank Satterfield Drive. This site has been used for wastewater treatment since
1968 and before that, an adjoining site was used. After a complete investigation, no adverse environ
mental consequences were identified, thus, no mitigations are necessary. Since all existing collection
sewers and future sewers drain to this site, consideration of another site would not be feasible.
Copies of the Environmental Assessment are available
for review at USDA/Rural Development, Macon Area
Office, 915 Hill Park. Suite 100 Macon, GA, 31201 or
City Hall, City of Perry, 1211 Washington Street Perry,
GA 31069. For further information contact Mr. Nigel
Parish, 478/752-8121. Any person interested in com
menting on this proposed project should submit
comments to the address above by March 7, 2005.
