Perry blasts Northeast

FORT VALLEY - Perry
head coach Brett Hardy said
the worst thing that could
happen would be for a team
with only two wins to beat a
team with 20 wins.
He made sure his team
understood that wouldn’t
happen against Northeast
and it didn’t, as the Panthers
rolled past Northeast 82-
57, Tuesday in the opening
round of the Region 4-AAA
tournament.
The win also ensured
Perry a place in the state
tournament.

Northside played “man”

Wilson said the team had
never done.
“I thought we needed to
against this team,” she said.
With the starters back in,
the Lady Eagles outscored
the other Lady Eagles 14-10
in the remaining six minutes
of the second quarter and
led 29-21 at the half.
Northside put up eight
unanswered points at the
start of the second half and
held Eagle’s Landing to three
field goals as it extended its
lead to 43-27.
The Eagles hit three 3-
pointers in the fourth quar
ter but could get no closer
than within nine points of
the lead.
After the third trey, the
Eagles went 0-for-10 from
the field in the final five
minutes of the game. Their
only other point was a free
throw at the two-minute
mark.
Meanwhile, Northside
went 4-for-5 in the paint to
push its lead to 16, 56-40,

old, new memories
I’m having a hard
time believing it. I
attended Westfield
High School for four years
and never got a chance
to take part in hosting a
region (or state, for that
matter) basketball tour
nament.
What happens the year
after I leave? That’s right,
schools are coming from
all over south Georgia to
play in Perry.
But since it is such a
rare occasion, I’m going
to take a leave of absence
from my Friday chemistry
class and go to Westfield
after my last class on
Thursday in hopes of
catching some of the girls’
and hopefully all of the
boys’ game.
The region tournament
is always one of the best
times for high school
basketball. It’s one final
showdown before the
state tournament begins,
and it’s usually filled with
intense action.
For the past two months,
each of the four teams
in the tournament have

seconds left in the first to
give the Lady Bears a 12-

That was the way
it seemed to go. The
Demonettes would battle
back to the lead only to
see it disappear after eight

In the second quar

McDaniel trey put Griffin

McDaniel’s trey started
