President's Perspective
KEEP UP THE
GOOD WORK!
By the time this appears in Tech Talk I will be
retired and you will not have a new president.
Our new commissioner, Mike Vollmer, wants
to look at the structure of our department and
appoint Randall Peters as interim president for
a few months before going through the process
of appointing a president. Support him for
you have worked very hard over the past years
to become known as the “best in the state.
I thank each of you for your dedication and
hard work. You are looked upon as the “best.”
Keep this recognition for you deserve to have
the rest of the state looking up at you rather
than down.
Again, thank you for everything. It has been
an honor and pleasure for me to be your presi

John Leavens, a 2003 Dooly County High
School graduate, was recently selected as
the 2nd Middle Georgia Tech Prep Student
Champion. John received Tech Prep seals
from Dooly County High in the areas of Au
tomotive Technology and Agriculture. After
high school graduation, he enrolled in the
Nashville Auto Diesel College in Nashville,
TN and graduated October, 2004. He is
currently interviewing for job opportunities
and is considering starting his own business.
John was nominated by his Dooly County
High Automotive instructor, Mr. Jimie
Humphries.
John will be recognized at the State Tech
Prep Conference, February 15th in Adanta
at the “Champions” luncheon along with
36 other Tech Prep Student Champions.
The luncheon is co-sponsored by BMW
(US) Holding Corporation and the keynote

Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum in Peach
County, Doris Wilkinson, was named the Tech
Prep Adult/Community Champion for the 2004-
2005 academic year. Ms. Wilkinson has served
in the field of education for the past 43 years and
her focus has always been to improve the qual
ity of education for Peach County students. Ms.
Wilkinson has taken a special interest in Tech
Prep as a means to enhance what students learn in
their academic classes and to provide career devel
opment and basic job skills for all students.
Ms. Wilkinson will also be recognized at the
State Tech Prep Conference on February 15th in
Atlanta, GA.

All programs are operated under
specific state program standards.
State standards allow Middle
Georgia Technical College to
offer this guarantee: “If an em
ployer finds a Middle Georgia
Technical College graduate to
be deficient in specific compe
tencies listed in a state standard
curriculum within two years of
graduation, the student will be
retrained at no instructional cost
to the student or employer.” This
applies to any graduate who is
employed in the field of his/her
training for a period of two years
after graduation.
