WARNER ROBINS - It’s
going to seem like old times
to Kurt Greene. His Jones
County team is scheduled
to play Warner Robins at
7 p.m. in Columbus in the
next round of the GHSA
AAAA state basketball play
offs, but more than that will
make it special for him.
He’s going to be reliving
rivalries. You see, the Lady
Greyhounds’ head coach
also used to be Northside’s
from 1995-1996.

WARNER ROBINS -
Last season, the Lady Eagles
finished 8-5 and missed the
playoffs by one point.
This time they hope for more.
“We want a good seed in the region
tournament,” said head coach Scott
Wynn. “And we want
to make it to state.”
The first thing
Wynn had to do was
find a new goalie. He
lost four-year starter

Valerie Moan to graduation.
“Tiffany Corley came to me last year
and asked to play goal,” Wynn said. “I
put her in against Mount Zion. She
got hurt ... I took her out and about
10 minutes later she told she wanted
to go back in because she had to finish
what she started.”
She is only a sophomore. In fact, his
current team has only two seniors,
but most of the players have played
together for a year.

He has a strong group of seniors

Sean Mayo is back. He had 12 goals

Also, senior Mike Tye started as a

“The key to our season will be team

“That’s my approach, control the

he added. “With the ball in our hands,
we’ll win the game.”

The Panthers fin
ished 16-14 and survived
through the first round of
the AAA playoffs.
Not only is it his first
year as Perry’s head
coach, but it is his first
head coaching job, and as
he enters his position, two
new teams enter 4-AAA.
Gone is perennial power
Dublin, but in is Spalding
which finished in the top
four last year.
Gone for the Panthers is
number one pitcher Doug
Yarborough and starting
catcher Tyler Lawhorn.
Also gone to gradua
tion are Bruce Vance and
Jeremy Barr.
“Barr was a good short
stop,” Masters said. “They
will be missed.”
Catching is the
Panthers’ sore spot and
Masters said he is looking
at senior Corey Jones and
junior Brian Duckworth
to fill the void.
“Corey wants to start
this year,” Masters
said. “He knows Brian
is behind him and that
pushes him.”
If Jones wins the posi
tion, he will have to be
smart enough to handle
lefty Josh Stewart.
Stewart looks to be
Masters’ number one
pitcher. He was their No.
2 starter last year.
In all, Masters said he
thinks he has five pitch
ers on his roster and looks
for Shane Ashley to step
into the role as the second
two and Mitchell Fowler
to leave center field for
No. 3.
That gives Masters the
unusual pleasure of hav
ing two lefties in his start
ing rotation in Stewart
and Fowler.
Seth Reber and Robby
Taylor round out the
staff.
“Reber’s my most ver
satile player,” Masters
said. “He can pitch, play
first, third, catcher or the
outfield.”
Yarborough played first
when he wasn’t pitching.
Now Masters is looking
