Let 'em eat lamb!
Southerners tend to
look for pork, chicken and
beef when they’re loading
up the grocery cart, but
lamb - especially now
that it’s more available in
local grocery stores - can
add variety and flavor to
your menu planning.

State
bank bill
raises
concerns
By KRISTEN WYATT
Associated Press Writer
ATLANTA - What if cities
and counties in Georgia had
one-stop shopping for bor
rowing money for local proj
ects? The idea sounded good
to Republicans in the
Legislature, who have pro
posed a new state bond bank
that would lend money for
everything from roads to
sewers.
But the plan has bogged
down amid concerns that it
would put too much control
in one place and allow gov
ernments to borrow huge
sums of money without tax
payer approval. It’s one of
several bills proposed by
Republican leaders this
term aimed at greasing the
wheels for economic devel
opment projects, in a way
some say gives government
too much power.
Currently, local govern
ments that want to borrow

The county commission voted
unanimously to create the
Redevelopment Authority Tuesday.
Warner Robins is slated to take
action on the resolution at its meet
ing next Monday.

Commission Chairman Ned

The new Warner Robins
Information Guides have
just arrived at the Warner
Robins Area Chamber of
Commerce and are ready for
viewing.
The 94-page, full-color
books are packed full of the
information you would need
to get your way around
Warner Robins and Houston
County. It tells you how to
get your driver’s license,
how to get gas and electric
service, whom to call to get
cable television, and how to
get your children enrolled in
school.
The info guide contains a
lot of fun facts, such as the
population of Warner
Robins is 54,264 while the
county contains 120,434 res
idents. The unemployment
rate for Houston County is
3.3 percent, and the average
weekly wage is $630. Dang, I
need a raise.
“We try to make these so
that they are valid for about
a year,” said Chamber
President Frank Feild. “We
will be putting out this one’s
successor in early spring.”
Feild said putting together
the info guide is hard work.

sions. I’m confident we’ll be in that
mode,” Sanders said.
Commissioner Tom McMichael
said the resolution was “ absolutely
essential if we get new missions in
here.”

Ebi credited with
saving teen’s life
while stationed

ROBINS AIR FORCE
BASE - Capt. Kenneth Ebi
was enjoying a day at
Tyndall Beach, Fla. He did
n’t know his day of leisure
would win him an Airman’s
Medal for Heroism.
In 2003, Ebi was stationed
at Tyndall Air Force Base
doing Air Battle Manager
training.
“I was walking on the
beach enjoying the weather,
and I looked out and saw
him out there, there was an
odd kind of seriousness
about it,” Ebi said.
At that moment Ebi
jumped in the water and
swam out about 75 to 80
yards to save a teenager
caught in the riptide.
“I kept him afloat,” Ebi
said. “Someone on the beach
had called 911. When a
flotation device arrived I
was separated from him.”
Ebi drifted further out, in
the water and after a 20-
minute swim arrived back
at the shore.

Public Affairs, the Airman’s

“We havi been working
with drafts of the copy ever
since I took the job,” said
Feild. “We have edited it as
tight as possible because we
want to make sure it is accu
rate.”
Feild admitted that some
errors will make their way
in and asked that anyone
who finds one to contact the
chamber so it can be correct
ed in the next edition.
The guide s printed by
Great Southern Publishers
of St. Simons Island. The
chamber purchased 5,000
copies of 1b ; year’s guide as
opposed to 3,000 of last
year’s issue.
“A number of different
companies advertise in the
guide and they get a set
number of free copies based
on the size of their ad,” said
Feild. “The chamber gets
the remaining copies and
they will go into Welcome
Packets. We also sell some to
local Realtors and business
people who give them to
clients.
“This is not a giveaway,”
said Feild “These go to peo
ple wh seriously consid
ering n 1 x to the commu
nity.”
