Cub Scouts visit
the state capitol

ATLANTA - A group of
Perry Cub Scouts recently
visited the state capitol in
Atlanta to learn about state
government. Highlights of
their day were meeting with
both Gov. Sonny Perdue and
Sen. Ross Tolleson, touring
the capitol and attending a
state senate session.
Those who made the trip,
along with their parents and
leaders were Daniel
Bergman, Brandon Davis,
Tanner Fritz, Jared Law
and Frank Wilson, all of Cub
Scout Pack 419 Cobra
Patrol.
Upon arrival at the capi
tol, the excited scouts took a

Happy 80th Birthday!
Claire Chapman sends
a very special happy birth
day to Mr. “Bill”
Chapman, who is celebrat
ing his Big Eight-Oh on
Sunday. A native Perryan,
who attended the Perry
schools and served the Air
Force, he loves fixing
things, working on cars and
anything mechanical and
electrical, is a devoted
Braves fan, especially from
his armchair with some
vanilla ice cream and choco
late syrup. (Claire says his
hobbies also include cook
ing and eating delicious
desserts.)

brief tour of the capitol’s
second floor before meeting
with Gov. Perdue. At 10
a.m., the scouts were greet
ed by the governor’s staff
and escorted into his office.
Their nervousness immedi
ately disappeared because of
Gov. Perdue’s warm and
friendly welcome.
The scouts thanked the
governor for his support in
passing a law preventing a
landfill from being located
near Camp Benjamin
Hawkins in.
They met Sen. Ross
Tolleson of Perry. Tolleson
was friendly and took an
interest in the eager scouts,
asking them about the
scouting program and their
program for quilters, and
those who are interested in
the art of quilting.
On Thursday at 6:30
p.m., Jayne Buckwalter
will be the guest speaker at
the Crossroads Quilt Guild
monthly meeting at Rozar
Park Community Center.
The program will be a trunk
show and lecture on “200
years of Quilting in
America.”
There will be an admis
sion charge of $5, with plen
ty of good food and fellow
ship. The monthly meet
ings of the Crossroads Quilt
Guild, which are held each
second Thursday are usual
ly free but in this case, the
admission fee will provide
an honorarium for a very
special speaker.

Happy news
Gov. Sonny Perdue and
First Lady Mary Perdue
are happy over the birth of
their four grandchild,
Jacob “Jake” Clayton
Perdue. The baby, who is
the first child of the Rev.
Family e? Faith
trip to the capitol. He invit
ed them to the Senate ses
sion where they met and
pages working in the
Senate. All of the scouts
agreed that it would be
interesting to be a page for a
day.
As they entered the
Senate gallery, they were
greeted by the doorkeeper,
Ms. Mary, who answered
many of their questions.
They later met with
Tolleson after the session
and had their picture taken
with Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor.
As they were leaving they
met a friendly lady who
stopped to talk with them
and ask them what they
were doing out of school.
Jim Perdue and his wife,
Stephanie, was born on
Feb. 27 at the Northeast
Georgia Medical Center in
Gainesville, weighing 7 lbs.,
1 oz.
New home
Congratulations to
Dennis, Kari Ann and
Bream Stubbs who have
just moved into their brand
new home on Henson Road
in Haynesville.
Off to Ecuador
Irene Harner writes
that “Katie Reynolds is
an excited young woman.
The daughter of Judy
Reynolds and the late
Billy Reynolds, she will
join the Youth Group of the
Atlanta Episcopal Diocese
in mid-June on a mission to
Ecuador. She and her fami
ly are longtime members of
All Saints Episcopal Church
of Warner Robins.”

The scouts explained that
they had permission to take
the trip because it was edu
cational. The lady turned
out to be State
Superintendent of Schools
Kathy Cox.

Matthew Patterson,
son of Jimmy and Rosalie
Patterson of Perry is now
a sophomore music busi
ness major at Berry College.
He is one of the Berry
Singers performing in
“Echoes” with the college’s
dance troupe at the Rome
City Auditorium this week.
1776 and all that
Perry Players will open
their spring musical,
“1776” on Thursday night.
Play dates will be March 10
