ALBANY - Five students
from sister schools, Bonaire
Elementary and Bonaire
Middle, had entries in the
Georgia Southwest Regional
Social Science Fair, Feb. 19
at Albany State College.
Students from Bonaire
Elementary were Katie
Davis and Kristin Walker.
Kayla Segars, Nikki Sritan
and Jason Lloyd were the
students from Bonaire
Middle.
Fifth-grade students Katie
Davis and Kristin Walker
were first-place winners
with “Hurricanes” and “Has
the Chicken Pox Vaccine
Been Effective in Reducing
the Number of Chicken Pox
Cases?” as their respective
projects. The projects will
advance to the Georgia
State Social Studies Fair to
be held this month at
Clayton State College and
University in Morrow. Katie
and Kristin both agree that
the hard work was well

“I love being in the Social
Science Fair,” Katie said. “I
didn’t think I would get to
state, but I did! I liked doing
my project, and it was fun. It
was a lot of work, but it was
worth it.”
Kristin said the experi
ence taught her how to
research a topic.
“Even though it was a lot
of hard work, I did learn a
lot about chicken pox and
the vaccine that came out
the year I was born,” she
said. “Doing the Social
Studies Fair project will help
me with my other projects
when I get to middle
school.”
Seventh-grade student
Nikki Sritan’s project, “Do
TVs, Cell Phones, and
Computers Emit Dangerous
EMR?” was also a first-place
winner. Nikki said partici
pating in the fair was an
invaluable experience.

“Advancing to the
Regional Social Science Fair
in Albany was very excit
ing,” she said. “It was inter
esting to see all the other
students that had also
advanced from their coun
ties. The judge who inter
viewed me was from a differ
ent country, and I enjoyed
meeting someone from a
country other than mine.
Now that I am advancing to
the State Social Science Fair,
I feel very privileged.”
Kayla Segars’ project “Do
Transformers Emit
Dangerous EMRs That
Could Effect Human
Health?” won a second-place
ribbon.
“The Study and
Construction of a Tesla
Coil” was the title of Jason
Lloyd’s third-place project.
“I think participating in
the Social Science Fair was
both fun and exciting,”
Kayla said. “It was a great
chance to explore the world
around us.”
