Q I love the voice of Vikki
Carr. Is she still recording
and touring?
—Roy P., Pennsylvania
The three-time Grammy winner is
negotiating a new contract with Klasico
Records, while preparing a one-woman
show about Iter life and performing
occasional concerts. She'll soon begin
filming a movie in Austin, Texas, with
Martin Landau called Travis and Henry. “I took a short sabbatical,
but I never wanted to say I retired, because I never left,” she says.
"After 47 years on the road, I just said, ‘lts tirhe for Vikki Carr.’”
Carr, 64, believes her greatest accomplishment was fighting for
the single release of It Must Be Him, which reached No. 1 on the
Adult Contemporary charts in 1967. "That and performing for the
Queen of England in the late ‘6os," she recalls. “Here was this little
Mexican-American representing the United States of America and
it was incredible." Carr moved to San Antonio 12 years ago when
she married for the third time. “The third one is the charm.
I now have three step-children and two grandkids,” she says.
“I took dance lessons during that time off and even won 12
first places in Latin dance contests. It shows you that it’s never
too late. It’s been a good life."
What ever happened to ESPN’s Max
Kellerman?
—Bob F., New York
The native New Yorker hosts I, Max on the Fox Sports Network.
Kellerman, 31, has been fascinated with sports since he was a kid.
“My first memory of becoming obsessed with sports is watching
Muhammad Ali fight Ernie Shavers with my dad,” he says.
"What 1 remember best, was thinking at the time that
the champ’s name was one word (“Muhammadali”)

Fifty years ago, on our first date,
my husband and I went to the John
Wayne movie The High and the Mighty.
I have been trying the find it in video
but have had no luck. Any suggestions
as to where I could find it?
—Carol D., Wisconsin
Right now the 1954 film is not available on video.
However, fans' requests for the movie are in the
process of being met. The William Wellman
directed disaster film was sent in for restoration
work in preparation for an eventual home video/
DVD release. No date has been announced.
Georgian Lindy Newton’s
Dreams Become a Reality
Only a few months after moving
from Waycross, Ga. (pop. 15,333),
to Los Angeles, newcomer Lindy
Newton, 23, is seeing her child
hood dream of becoming a success
ful actress come true. She stars in
Thicker Than Water on the Hall
mark Channel at 9 p m. ET March
12. “It’s about family," she says, “but
not necessarily about blood family.
It's more about adopted family—what you think family is and
how it is important in your life.” The movie also stars Lindsay
Wagner and Melissa Gilbert. “I grew up watching Little House
on the Prairie , so I was very intimidated the first day I went in
because the first scene they had me shoot was with Melissa,"
she says. “But she was super down-to-earth. It was one of those
out-of-body experiences where I had to pinch myself.” Newton
performed in her first school play at age 10 and began audition
ing for films at age 14. The 2004 College of Charleston (S.C.)
graduate landed roles in the movies Radio and The Notebook
and moved to Los Angeles in July. She’s supporting herself as a
restaurant hostess between acting jobs. “I’m just auditioning in
the hopes of being busy,” she says. “(Television) pilot season is
coming up.”
