Griffin had the ball at

“We cleared the ball

“We had good separation

a crossing pass and
Courtney Hoffman beat

Hoffman got the ball

Hillary Torchia the shot.
Kelsey Torchia made it

the second half.
“We noticed in the first
half that if we went right
(Griffin’s) entire defense
went right,” Wynn said.
“I told the girls at the half
we needed to spread the
field out.”
The Lady Eagles did,
and Kelsey kicked the
ball into the left corner or
the goal from an assist by
Shanteria Dennis.
Northside attempted 18
shots on goal in the game.
Kelsey had three scoring
opportunities blunted

PERRY - Westfield closed
out its 2005 Brannen Motor

with a 3-0 win
over Mount

Jeff Barfield
got the win for
the Hornets,
his second of

It was his second win of
the tournament, as he fin

zero earned run average.
The Hornets picked up
their first run in the second
inning when Brandon James
singled.
A subsequent pick-off
attempt went awry and
James ended up at third.
Zach Young then grounded
to second to drive him in.

GHSA rules
are sometimes
kind of 'loco'
The Georgia
High School
Association’s
rules concerning appro
priate noise at high school
sporting events bring a
whole new meaning to
nice lungs.
I covered the Houston
County boys and girls
basketball games at the
Macon Centreplex last
week.
Although not much in
evidence at the Lady Bears
game Thursday night,
the HoCo Locos were in
strong voice during the
Bears Friday night game
against Stephenson.
They could have been
in stronger voice had not
GHSA officials confiscated
a megaphone. The Locos
also had to give up their
balloons and “D-fence”
posters.
As one official told me,
anything that enhances
the voice is prohibited at
high school games.
That’s where nice (read
big) lungs come in handy.
Fans can take in a huge
inhale, take in a large
amount of air and that
will in turn can result in a
huge bellow of support.
But wait. Maybe it’s the
diaphragm. Opera singers
