Leadership Conference

Houston County High
School Chapter of Future
Business Leaders of
America (FBLA) attended
the Region 5 Leadership
Conference on Jan. 21 at
Middle Georgia Technical
College. Individuals compet
ing at the Region conference
came away with the follow
ing awards:

Demetria Howard (first
place in Desktop
Publishing)
John Rogers (first place in
Public Speaking I)
Jonathan Bagley and Alex

LJES Lion Dancers named Georgia State Champions

2005 Lake Joy Lion Dance
Team represented Lake Joy
Elementary School at the
recent * CHEERSPORT
Georgia Cheer and Dance
Championship in Atlanta.
The hard work and dedica
tion of this team was evident

Colonial Gardens Assisted Living facility residents Minnie Lee Williams and Robert
Chancey enjoy a game of bingo with Houston County High School Family, Career and
Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members Erica Lipford, Robyn Evans, Kandi
Chambers, Laura Despres and Sara Johnson. The FCCLA chapter often visits the facil
ity as a community service project. Nelda Clay and Jane Cooper are the advisers to the
HCHS organization.

The chapter was awarded
third place in the Region for
chapter membership with
76 members. The chapter
also received an award for
being a finalist in the FBLA
Monopoly Tournament
which was held at the Fall
Leadership Conference in
November. Teams from
HCHS competed with other
teams from around the state
in the tournament which
FBLA hosts as a benefit for
the March of Dimes. Jamie
Nichols, CBE Coordinator,
serves as sponsor.
