Recently, 71 students at Tucker Elementary School jumped all over heart disease and
stroke by participating in Jump Rope For Heart. The students raised more than $3,300
for the American Heart Association.

expressed his disappoint
ment that a key Senate
panel failed again to make
progress on the Bush
Administration’s proposal to
rewrite the Clean Air Act.
After postponing three
previous votes on the “Clear
Skies” legislation, the
Senate Environment and
Public Works Committee
stalled it again today with a
9-9 vote. Isakson, a member
of the committee, voted for
the bill.
“In the end, perfection is
the enemy of the good,”

joined the Institute for
Healthcare Improvement’s
100,000 Lives Campaign,
the inaugural national cam
paign to save 100,000 lives
by implementing proven
healthcare improvement
techniques. The campaign
aims to enlist more than
1,600 hospitals across the
country in the next 18
months to reach this goal.
“Our mission is to provide
the best quality care in the
most cost-efficient manner
to the patients we serve,”
said Houston Healthcare
CEO Frank Aaron. “We are
pleased to have the opportu
nity to participate in this
national campaign to
enhance our quality
improvement efforts.”

and CEO of the Institute for
Healthcare Improvement.

changes such as:

Based Care for Acute
Myocardial Infarction - by
consistently delivering key
measures, including early
administration of aspirin
and beta-blockers, that pre
vent patient deaths from
heart attack
Prevent Adverse Drug
Events - by implementing
medication reconciliation,
which requires that a list of
all of a patient’s medications
(even for unrelated illness
es) be compiled and recon
ciled to ensure that a patient
is given or prescribed the
right medications at the cor
rect dosages at admission,
discharge and before trans
ferring a patient to another
care unit

air quality standards by

oxide by 77 percent and
mercury by 76 percent.
“Today we had the oppor
tunity to bring to the floor
legislation that is better
than current law,” Isakson
said Wednesday. “It ends lit
igation and achieves signifi
cant reductions of 70 per
cent of three pollutants. It
provides a clearer regulatory
path that achieves certain
and greater pollution reduc
tions than existing law. This
would have been real
progress. We would have
moved the ball forward.”
