“We are one of 10 ten
cities along the Golden Isles
Parkway, being members of
the Georgia Isles Parkway
Association, and this is an
effort to promote tourism
on 341,” Jones said.
She said vendors from
out of the area will also be
joining in, selling every
thing from typical yard sale
items to gifts, anything
from old machine parts to
medical supplies.
The kickoff of the event
will be at the New Perry
Hotel, where a ribbon cut
ting will be held at 10:30
a.m.
Wanda Marchant, execu
tive director of the
Hazlehurst board of
tourism, said this is the
first year for the event, and
that organizers hope it will
catch on.
“We’ve been talking
about it for several years,”
Marchant said. “Evelyn

The yard sale is designed
to encourage tourism and
economic development
along the Golden Isles
Parkway.
“It was the right time to
do it this year,” Marchant
said.

She explained that’s why
the Golden Isles Parkway
Association was formed in
1995 - to expand the high

other highways.
“We feel like we’re fortu

She said organizers have
received calls from as far as
Florida, Ohio, Alabama and
Tennessee, from vendors
and shoppers.
The event is more than
just to encourage people to
shop.
“We’ve tried to be fair
with all communities
involved,” Marchant said.
“The treasure map we’re
distributing encourages
people to go to local stores
and spread economic devel
opment everywhere. We
can’t wait to see what each
community will bring back
when the 10 cities meet to
discuss the weekend
event.”
The bureau in
Hazlehurst received word
thpt a Red Hat society in
Mcßae that is renting a
limo to travel the entire
route.
“This is a way of letting
people know you can use
this for family entertain
ment, and a lot of retired
people use this as a way to
travel,” Marchant said.
