How do I set up a wireless network?
Dear TeehnoFiles:
I’d like to setup a wire
less network both to
share files and share the
Internet. How do I do
that? - Bryant in Warner
Robins
Dear Bryant:
Nowadays, setting up a
wireless network has never
been easier or cheaper, even
compared to just a year ago.
All you need is a wireless
access point (about $100)
and a wireless card for each
computer you want to con
nect (about SSO-$75 a card).
The whole process takes
about 20 minutes, and all
the equipment can be gotten
at your local Circuit City,
Best Buy, Staples or Office
Billboard ban a cop-out
Editor:
So we have an unnamed
Georgia legislator who
wants to ban billboards at
Exit 146 that declare “We
Bare All.”
Although this may sound
like he is trying to protect
the public from itself, what
he is really doing is trying to
avoid parental responsibility
by explaining the sign to his
children. Does he also forbid
his children from watching
TV or reading magazines
with the suggestive ads for
almost every product?
He is also trying to prac
tice selective discrimination
and censorship.
Although these signs cer
tainly are suggestive, are
they any more suggestive,
verbally or visually, than
some of the other billboards
along our highways selling
nationally known products?
Is it his intention to ban
these signs statewide, or just
at the Warner Robins exit?
If you want to ban bill
boards, ban all of them. Yes,
they can be informative, but
mostly they are visual pollu
tion. They are also getting
bigger and taller. Why not
make our interstates more
visually pleasant by elimi
nating all billboards? The
Interstate system already
provides informational
signs.
It sounds like this legisla
tor is either trying to impose
his personal moral or reli
gious beliefs on the public.
Or he has an agenda hacked
by some special interest
groups.
It is also disappointing
that the Home Journal actu
ally is endorsing this move
ment. Journalistically you
should have seen through

you have it working, your

Or at least asked the same
questions that I have.
Perhaps we should ban bill
boards advertising the
Home Journal because they
have headlines about death,
murder and rape. Or are
these just life’s realities?
I have a suggestion for
this legislator and his sup
porters. Instead of worrying
about how you are going to
explain a sign that says, “We
Bare All” to your children ...
how about ... “Just Saying
No” to patronizing these
Businesses.

It was a no-brainer that
RAFB would lose this

the same again! - Jason
Dear TeehnoFiles:
I’ve been burning
music CDs for some time
Yet the USAF pulled out
every dirty trick in the book,
and then some, to win their
case. But the good guys had
the evidence to prove their
side. Their heroic early win
should be heartily greeted.
What’s sad is that this
tragic, epic case of plain bad
management and racial
unfairness could have been
settled a lot sooner and at a
much smaller cost to the
taxpayer. Mediation could
have done it, but both sides
were dying for a fight. This
case is a classic example of
bad management that the
BRAC folks will use against
RAFB in the final run. But
the good guys, all 12,000
plus of them, really won,
though few may admit it.

but recently I’ve been
getting errors. I
switched brands after
finding a good buy at a
local store. Does the
brand of media make a
difference or is my burn
er just going bad? - Kelli
Dear Kelli:
You didn’t specify what
errors you were getting, but
I’ll go through the most
common problems with
burning CDs (and DVDs as
far as that goes). First, qual
ity media does matter. Good
media depends on your type
of burner and what works
best with it, but I’ve had
good luck with Maxell and
Verbatim. I’ve heard that
TDK and Memorex are fine
money for the HOPE grant,
then why’s he so opposed to
another lottery in the form
of parimutuel horse racing?
Whereas a ticket lottery
has no ripple effect whatso
ever, horse racing definitely
does by benefiting not only
horsemen, breeders, farm
ers, and track employees,
but restaurant, hotel and
supply businesses also bene
fit by having a horse track
nearby. Plus, as the Sport of
Kings, horse racing is
extremely entertaining to
watch, unlike a ticket lot
tery.
Presently there is a bill in
our legislature that would
allow Georgia to join 43
other states that use
parimutuel wagering on
horses to raise funds for
their education and general
funds. With the need of
more money for the HOPE
grant and with dire munici
pal needs in Atlanta, such as
roads and sewer repairs, this
bill would help raise much
needed cash without taxing

also, but if you haven’t
heard of the brand before,
you might want to search
groups.google.com and see if
there are any messages from
people using that brand
with your specific burner.
As to other possibilities
for problems, make sure
your drivers for your burner
haven’t become corrupted
by uninstalling and rein
stalling your burning pro
gram (I like Roxio’s EZ-CD
Creator or Nero). Try burn
ing at the slowest speed pos
sible, and remember, some
discs can’t be burned at the
maximum speed of your
burner. You might want to
disconnect from your net
work and/or Internet while
citizens..
I’ve spoken to all my local
state reps and senators, and
everyone is for this bill
except for the governor. I
find this odd inasmuch as
he’s a veterinarian who you
would think would under
stand the beauty and bene
fits of horse racing. I can
only think he’s opposed to it
on religious grounds as a
Baptist, but I thought the
initial lottery bill by then
Gov. Zell Miller overcame
these “moral objectionists.”
If I am wrong, then why is
Gov. Sonny still refusing to
pursue this potential source
of income? As a taxpayer I
am stunned he refuses to
allow this under his reli
gious objections - recall the
separation of church and
state in government. What
good is a democracy if the
theology of one man alone
can sabotage the will of the
public need? I thought we
were past that when the ini
tial lottery bill was passed
