is heroic and I wish him all
the best and success in life,
lots of happiness for his
father, family and friends.
Ali explained that the gifts
he presented Lindgren were
handmade by the people of
Afghanistan.
Lindgren was presented a
marble tea set, and a box
made of lapis lazuli, a pre
cious stone mined in two
places in the country of
Afghanistan.
Ali said he often heard
Lindgren speak of his girl
friend, and her picture sat
on his desk.
So Ali thought it was only
appropriate to present her a
gift also.
Kay Weathers received a
lapis stone surrounded by
an intricate silver design.
“I would do it again in a
heartbeat,” Lindgren began,
as he spoke of the work he
did while in Kabul. “Thank
you, Gen. Ali, for your kind
ness. The one thing I knew I
could take back home with
me was the kindness of the
Afghan people.”

Lindgren said Ali told him
he would visit, but he never

“I thought maybe we
would have lunch or some

pretty amazing. I had no
