bass tournament Saturday.

YMCfI to put on
benefit tourney
The Houston County YMCA
will hold a golf tournament
to benefit “Camp Can Do,” a
two-week summer camp for
children with special needs.
Sponsored by STAR and
AVAYA, it will be held April 29
at Waterford Golf Club.
The event is slated to begin
with an 11:15 a.m. lunch fol
lowed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun
start. The format is a four
person team. The entry fee
is SSO, which includes lunch,
refreshments and lots more.
Door and team prizes will also
be awarded.

Demons, Panthers
to meet in football

WARNER ROBINS
- The first time Warner
Robins and Perry went
head-to-head on the grid
iron, Rocky Marciano was
busy winning the heavy
weight championship, Joe
DiMaggio and Marilyn
Monroe were getting
married and Lee Petty
- father to Richard - won
the NASCAR champion
ship.
The last time they
played, Alabama - under
Paul “Bear” Bryant - and
Michigan State tied for the
National Championship.
Now, it’s 1954-1965 all
over again because the
Demons and Panthers are
scheduled to play each
other in a scrimmage (a
Thursday) at McConnell-
Talbert Stadium Aug. 11
(a Thursday).
“The main reason we
are playing them is that
it hopefully will get our
team better prepared for
the regular season,” said

Tucker and Ashley Fairfax
signed scholarships
with Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College
Friday.
Fairfax was a four-year
starter for Perry and also
played basketball for the
Lady Panthers.
“I love both sports,”
Fairfax said. “(But) my
talents and skill level is
stronger in softball.”
Fairfax completed her
career batting near .350.
She was the team’s sec
ond baseman.
She expects to play the
middle infield or outfield
for ABAC and hopes to
attend a four-year college
and play softball after her
junior college career.
“I want to major in
sports administration,”
Fairfax said.
Tucker played varsity
softball for three years.
She was the starting
pitcher and set records for
wins and strikeouts.
She was recruited by

rect times, it is totally
incorrect for anyone to
be a winner because that
means that somebody has

entitled: “Demons’ cup is
half empty.”)
To go around campus
feeling like your thumb
and forefinger are shaping
an “E’ on your forehead
would be most unsettling.
I think that it’s immoral
not to seek a tie.
I noticed that my
Imperious Leader seems
to know a lot about

a school in our county it
will hopefully create some
interest within the com
munity and we are hoping
to have a good crowd for
the scrimmage.”
Ditto for Perry head
coach Andy Scott, who
said he approached all of
the other county schools
as well as a laundry
list of others including
Hawkinsville, Dooly and
Macon County for the
other scrimmage - each
school gets two - allowed
by the Georgia High
School Association.
Originally that nod
went to Americus-Sumter
but due to a scheduling
conflict it was changed
to West Laurens. The
Panthers are scheduled to
meet them at home Aug.

As far as Warner Robins,
Scott said it just made
sense for them to play
- not only for the Demons
but the Bears and Eagles,
too.
“Since I’ve been here
we’ve played all the other
schools in other sports,”
he said.

I will, therefore, refer to
him as “Gums.”
I take umbrage (It’s that
thing you carry to protect
yourself from rain) with
his notion that ties hurt
more than losses.
