Kathleen woman’s body found in front yard

KATHLEEN - Two Jones
County residents have been
charged with the Sunday
murder of a Kathleen
woman.
James John Carter, 33,
and Valerie Johnson Carter,
42, both of Jones County,
were arrested and charged
with murder Sunday after
authorities found the corpse
of Debra Ann Johnson
Coley, 52, of Kathleen.
According to the Houston

was crowned the 2005 Miss
Dogwood Saturday at the
Perry High School Theatre
for the Performing Arts.
The Miss Dogwood
Pageant was sponsored by
the Perry High School
cheerleaders, and the win
ner earned a SSOO college
scholarship,,,
Kelsey, the 17-year-old
daughter of Glenn and
Charissa Grubbs, is a senior
at Houston County High
School, where she is a mem
ber of the symphonic and
jazz bands, Beta Club, and
KAZ Sorority. She is a mem
ber of the varsity softball
team, participates in the
honors Program, and is
involved in student govern
ment. Kelsey has been
named Outstanding Band
Student, Best Supporting
Actress, “Best All Around”
superlative and
Homecoming Queen at
HCHS. She plans to attend
the University of Georgia,
where she plans to study
public relations.
Grubbs was joined in her
court by first runner-up
Melissa Rosa, second run
ner-up Whitney deYampert,
and third runner-up Molly
Moore. Rosa was judged to
have given the best inter
view and Blair Brown was
named Miss Congeniality.

County Sheriffs Office,
deputies responded to a
report of a body found in the
yard on Blackberry Circle
and found Coley deceased in
the front yard of her resi
dence, with “no visible signs
of trauma.”
The investigation is ongo
ing. Sheriff Cullen Talton
praised Sgt. David Carrick
and Lt. John Holland for
their work in making a
prompt arrest in the case.

named Miss Congeniality.
Macy Moulder was named
Junior Miss Dogwood. She
was joined by first runner
up Jaeden Cotton, second
runner-up Elizabeth
Seymour, and third runner
up Samantha Strickland.
Georgia Kelly was named
Little Miss Dogwood. She
was joined by first runner
up Michaela Heide, second
runner-up Darlyn Davis,
and third runner-up
Montana Cotton.
Elena Valarino was named
Tiny Miss Dogwood. She
was joined by first runner
up Madyson Kelly, second
runner-up Hannah Perry,
and third runner-up Caitie
Scuderi.
Capt. Robert Clark said
there is no apparent relation
between the victim and the
Carters. Clark said “we’re
focused on the murder,” and
could not comment on a
motive or additional charges
at this time.
Houston County Coroner
Daniel Galpin said an autop
sy had been conducted on
Coley’s body, and that all
findings were sent to the
state crime lab. His office
made no determination as to

Chamber of Commerce is
bringing its annual
Congressional Luncheon
back to Perry for the sec
ond year in a row.
U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson
will be the featured speak
er at the 2005
Congressional Luncheon,
set for Tuesday, Aug. 9, at
the Georgia National
Fairgrounds and
Agricenter.
The luncheon focuses on
feiiei al legislative issues
that affect Georgia busi
