couldn’t get it past their
goalie (Melissa Gamble).”
As already mentioned, it
wasn’t for lack of trying.
In fact, in terms of “gold
en opportunities,” Warner
Robins had them all.
Two examples came in the
first half. The first was when
the Lady Hawks’ goalkeeper
attempted to dive on a shot
approximately 10-feet out
front of the net. She didn’t
get a good grasp on the ball
and it began to trickle away.
Alyssa Schmucker pounced
at the opportunity but she
was tripped up in the fray.
Gamble, still in the prone
position, swung around and
made the save.
About two minutes later,
Schmucker sent a textbook
cross smack dab in front of
the goal that Sarah Sherman
“just missed” heading in for
a goal.
Early in the second half,
Danielle Atkins found her
self momentarily in open
space in front of the goal
but she couldn’t get her foot
on the ball fast enough for
a shot.
Midway through, Sherman
hit Schmucker on the run but
her clean shot - the hardest
struck against Hardaway’s
goalkeeper on the night to
that point - sailed high.
Later Atkins took another
hard shot but to no avail,
while with less than 10 min
utes left to play Schmucker
had yet another opportu
nity.
She broke loose and began

called, “a long perfect little
kick” from about 20 yards
out. That put the Lady
Panthers up 1-0 at 11:27 in
the first half.
The score remained that
way until 53 minutes into
the match when Elizabeth
Wilson hit her fifth goal of
the season.
She was 10 yards from the
goal, and Perry’s goalie was
screened from the play.
After the match, Wheeler
told his team they could have
won 4-1. They had opportu
nities.
Midway through the first
half, the Lady Bulldogs were
pressing in front of the box.

swarming defense and try to

Most of the game was
played at midfield. When the
ball crossed over, defenders
sent it back.
For Perry, Sid Swan played
stopper.
“Sid always does a great
job,” Said explained.
Perry is still undefeated
in the region with a 2-0-1
record. The Panthers are 4-
3-1 overall.

Gamble confronted her
and moved in to tie her up.
In the foray, she slipped but
still got a touch on the ball
- enough to cause it to slip
just past the left bar.
It was plenty frustrating
but in a way it was at least
telling, said Hunt whose
team outshot Hardaway 11-

Mary Persons had a wide
open shot at the goal, but
such was the Lady Bulldogs'
eagerness, they got in each
other’s way. Dykes recovered
and kicked the ball out past
the 18-yard box.
The Lady Panthers had
their own chances. Twice
in the first five minutes of
play, Perry attempted corner
kicks. The ball ended up in
front of the net, but the
Lady Panthers couldn’t get
it in.
