Harper doubled him in.
The Vikings made it 2-

Nichols’ solo home run

That was one of only
three earned runs charged
to Bears starter Brian

Houston County made
2-1 in their half of third

a walk, stole second and
moved to third on Casey
Stuart’s single.
Stuart entered the game

scored.
Although Stuart was
safe at first, Lowndes’
shortstop threw the ball
away in the attempt. That
allowed Jackson to score.

PERRY - At 1-1 in
Region 4-AAA, the
Panthers baseball team is
in the midst of a three
game road trip that head
coach Shawn Masters said
could very well define its
season.
The timing is sort of a
“mixed bag.”
“We’ve pretty much
cleaned up our gloves,”
Masters said. “Now
we’re struggling with our
bats.”
Perry was blanked 7-0
by Mary Persons and 3-0
by West Laurens in its
last two games.
Because of the weather,
Masters had to resched
ule Monday’s home game
against Dodge County
to April 25. Instead the
Panthers traveled to
Spalding (results pend
ing).
According to Masters,
Spalding and Washington
County have emerged as
the top teams in Region
4-AAA, and they are the
ones new to the region.
Still, there is good news
in the Perry camp.
Local vintage racing

For starters, Mitchell
Fowler is 3-0 with a 1.21
ERA.
“He was a nice sur
prise this year,” Masters
said. “Shane Ashley has
pitched well enough to be
3-0, but he’s 0-2.”
Masters said that’s
largely because of hit
ting.
“It’s either feast or fam
ine for us,” he said. “We’ll
hit real well or not hit at
all. We’re either real good
or not good at all.”
That being the case, he
added he has made some
changes he hopes will
turn things around.

said, and “there will be a
ton of giveaways.”
For example, a complete
Chevy 350 motor will be
given away, as well as
“three” automatic trans
missions.
There will be a “bucket
load of door prizes,” he
said, and raffle tickets
will be sold for $lO each
or three for $25 for a
chance to win the grand
prize of $3,000.
The cost to get into the
show is $5.
Of the profits from that,
Moore said half would go
toward Child’s Heart, a
division of Hospice, which
deals with children who
have lost a parent or sib
ling and are going through
the grieving process.
The rest, he said, would
be used to help others
within the racing commu
nity who fall on misfor
tune during the year.
Gates are scheduled
to open for the event at
8 a.m., with the raffle
slated to start at 3 p.m.,
Moore said.
