'Spiritual happening' taken to heart

WARNER ROBINS - A
man’s “spiritual happening”
reportedly prompted him to
threaten to shoot police
after they told him to turn
his radio down.
Donnell Wideman, 29, 701
Huntington Chase Circle,
Warner Robins, was arrest
ed for loud music and disor
derly conduct-obstruction of
a police officer following a
confrontation with two
Warner Robins police offi
cers about 3:45 a.m.
Saturday.

a.m. He told the revelers
he’d received a complaint
and it was time to end the
party. They complied imme
diately.
A uniformed officer
responding to 911 call about
the party arrived and was
told it had been taken care
of. Both officers walked over
to the breezeway to be sure
all partygoers left the area
without incident.
About 3:45 they reported
ly heard extremely loud
music coming from the
parking lot near the trash
compactor, and observed a
man talking on a cell phone
at the rear of his car, a 1998

Cadillac with the door open.
The courtesy officer
approached Wideman and
asked him to turn down the
music, and the man report
edly looked at him and
ignored him. He was asked
again to turn it down and
the man reportedly said,
“You said your peace, now
step off.” He then allegedly
turned away and ignored
the request.
The courtesy officer, wear
ing a Warner Robins Police
polo shirt, identified himself
and asked Wideman for a
third time to turn the radio
down. The man complied,
then walked back to the rear
of his vehicle and reportedly

walking up on me because I

The uniformed officer also
heard the threat and both
officers approached
Wideman, and demanded
his ID. He refused to comply,
and reportedly stated he’d
shoot the officer. The sus
pect allegedly said he had a
concealed weapons permit
and could carry a weapon if
he wanted.
The uniformed officer
asked Wideman if he was in
possession of a weapon and
the man again said he had a
carry permit. When asked
again, Wideman allegedly

The officers immediately
grabbed his arms and placed
him into handcuffs.
A search of his person
found no weapon and offi
cers noted the subject was
reportedly “uncooperative
throughout the entire
encounter,” saying again
that he would shoot the offi
cer if he walked up on him
again.
Wideman reportedly
claimed he was better
trained and would shoot the
officer before he could get a
shot off. He also reportedly
claimed he was a security
guard and always carried

weapons.
After Wideman was trans
ported for processing, a fam
ily member reportedly
walked up and asked to take
the car to park it. The officer
detected an odor of alcoholic
beverage and advised the
man to leave it where it was
and come back when he was
sober.
When asked why he’d
acted that way, the man said
the two had just had a “spir
itual happening” and he
must have taken it to heart.
The man also said Wideman
did not have a gun, and he
had no further explanation
for his actions.
