voted at a special called meeting to
approve a tentative budget for the
upcoming school year.

WARNER ROBINS - The
60 new volunteers at
Houston Medical Center
gave more than 33,000
hours of time last year.
Those receiving service
awards in a recent ceremony
for at least 500 of service
gave about 182,000 hours to
help the hospital serve the
community. The Houston
Medical Center Auxiliary
and the hospital honored
those volunteers, the ladies
in the pink blouses and the
men, who give of their time
and talents, with its annual
awards and recognition
luncheon.
“It makes me proud to see
all the volunteers,” said
Auxiliary President Jerry
Cochran, to the sea of pink
vests gathered at the Carter
Building, the First United
Methodist Church Social
Hall.
Hospital Administrator
Art Christie, Dr. Tony
Alford and others on staff at
the hospital helped serve the
volunteers.

PERRY - After 42 years
of service to customers in
Alabama and Georgia, Skip
Dawkins is retiring.
A reception will be held
at the Green Derby at
Holiday Inn from 5 until 7
p.m. Thursday.
“The event was a sur
prise until Skip found out
about it,” his wife Betty
said.
Dawkins, area manager
for Alltel, said there have
been many changes in the
telecommunications indus
try since he started work
ing in it a little more than
four decades ago.
“When I started, there
was an operator who said
‘Number please,’” he said.
“Now you can call any
where in the world and find
out things through the
Internet. And cellular serv
ice and digital service lets
people go out and see
what’s happening in the
world.”
He said the industry
changed so much in his
