This dish features roasted
chicken “in a caramelized
orange sauce,” but truth be
told, the sauce be bland.
The snap peas, brown rice
and pecans save the day,
though. Everything looks
and tastes fresh, and brown
rice makes an excellent
change of pace from the
usual lump of white rice
offered with these frozen
entrees.
Now if only they could
juice up the sauce ...

Still, it all started with a farmer
trying to make a living, and the real
reason Vidalias have been such a
success, regardless of promotion, is
that onion-lovers just love Vidalias.
According Ip historians from
Vidalia, Mose Coleman, a farmer in
Toombs County grew the first
sweet Vidalia onions in 1931,
entirely by mistake. He meant to
have hot onions, and wound up

Furniture shopping in High Point
After ten plus years of
enjoying our family room
furniture my husband and I
decided we were ready for
something new.
Over the course of several
weeks we talked about what
pieces we would like to pur
chase, as well planning out a
color theme, style and most
importantly, a budget.
It was then up to me to
scour the countryside to try
and find the best selection
and prices.
I decided it was the perfect
time to visit America’s furni
ture shopping mecca, High
Point, North Carolina.
Via the internet, I contact
ed the Chamber of
Commerce and requested a
visitors guide as well as a
furniture-shopping directo

You can also contact the
visitor information center by

My first bit of advice is to
plan to drive up during the
week. Many people make the
mistake of trying to jump in
the car Saturday morning
only to find that most of the
outlets close early on
Saturday and very few are
open on Sundays.
In addition, some outlets
close to the public during
April and October for the
buyers furniture market.
Next, save yourself a bit of
time and hassle by booking
your hotel room prior to

Based on my research I

If you do drive, consider
stopping in other surround

Lexington to see the

furniture, clean showrooms,
and great deals. As with all
outlets, you never know

who wish to spend serious

I then traveled a few min

Drexel Heritage is known to

beautifully that you can
never enter one without

the Ethan Allen Gallery and
it was wonderful as well.

This is a well known landmark in the city of Thomasville.
Across the street was
Furniture Land South. It
bills itself as the “World’s
Largest Home Furnishings
Showplace”. At over
1,000,000 square feet I have
to agree.
I entered the store
through an 85 ft. tall high
boy. After three hours I had
only seen maybe 200 of the
400 plus furniture lines that
they carry. Again, this is a
retail store, but they sell on
average at 40 percent less
than other retail stores.
Feeling overwhelmed I
stopped for a bite to eat in
their case and then went on
to their clearance center.

should be used for cooking only.
